It has been a few years and I think it is time. I have always owned Supras and had great luck with them. I have to say I am gonna look around a bit though.

The list include

Supra 242 Worlds
Malibu 23lsv
Malibu 247

no need to ride on the Supra it would be my 4th 24 from them

my dealer (ky) said he does not mind taking me out on either Malibu

I have never been in a epic and hesitate on it because I am the only wakeboarder in the family, the rest ski but them again i will be the one paying for it

I just don't see myself in a mastercraft, great boats, just can't justify the price difference

I went with a different brand when I was looking . The only thing I will suggest is to look at them all and test drive and test ride them all . The brand I bought was not the one I picked in the showroom. It was the test drive-ride that sold me . I dont think anybody builds a bad boat but one will fit you better than the others . Good Luck with what ever you end up with.

Malibu builds a great boat, but it too will be more expensive than the Supra. Also the wake will be less steep as compared to the Supra.Demo the boats and you will know which one works best for you.

The skiers would kill you if you got an Epic, there isn't a flat wake on that boat ever, not even at 30+mph. Now for wakeboarding, yeah, it's a big wake!

A new MC X-30 will be priced very closely to those boats, maybe even less. Might consider looking at one. I know you said you didn't see yourself in a MC due to price difference but there may not be as big of a difference as you may think.

Also the MB F24 looks pretty sweet. I got to be the first to mention MB!

Drive them all and go with your gut. I think you will find you will get much more boat for the money with the Supra and probably even a better deal as a loyal Supra customer. The new 242 looks sweet. I shopped around different brands pretty hard this year and still ended up with another Supra. The end of the day it was the clear winner for me. I say Supra of course, but Malibu makes a sweet boat so it really boils down to your own taste and how the numbers fall.

the wakes are very very different. With the wedge on the malibu, the wake gets closer to the supra, but still a lot different. If you love your supra wake, you may not be too stoked on the bu wake.... only a demo can tell.

How about this...

Until the OP can demo the boats and come back with meaningful opinions, let's each post a pic of the sweetest sample boats we can find (stick to the OP's list). This forum could use more boat porn and less hot air, if you know what I mean.

I'll start... both these were found on OIB just one year old. Believe it or not the Bu is cheaper.

For those that have been on both on busy lake days which rides better in rough water?

May ck out the malibus today but it will be glass on the lake, don't tell you much about the rough water ride

When I was looking for a boat we test drove a VLX out on Lanier (can be a pretty Rough lake) and we were not impressed with the rough handling at all. Although the 24 should do a little better because of the length and weight. We ended up buying a X25, it was actually a little cheaper then the VLX, and the rough water handling of the X25 is great. I highly recommend shopping around and test drive everything you can. Even if you think it's out of your range, some dealerships are willing to deal more then others and you never know until you talk to them.

That Malibu is sick. I really like the silver fleck on it.

I really, really like the 23LSV and the 247LSV. I like the 242 as well. My guess is the 23LSV though is about the same price if not more then a comparably equipped 242 and the 247 will be a fair amount more. That is in general though and might not be the case in your area. If the 242 and 247 were the same price I would opt for the 247(water limo). I am not sure I believe what Levi said on the price of the X30. It may be true where he bought but I just can't imagine MC producing a really nice 23 foot boat that is 20 or 30k less then a similar Xstar(2007-2011 model). Hell, I thought most MC dealers were selling X2's for over 70k and X15's for over 80k.

The 23, 247 and 242 are all awesome boats and I wish I had to make that choice.

I've drooled over that flaked 247 a whole bunch! We demoed recently Bu, MC and Tige. The prices were a lot closer than I thought they would be going in. Might as well at least check out MC and Tige as well.

What brand did you pick? The new XStar is pulling the PWT next week.

I have not had a new supra with the new tower, how hard are they to fold down?
Old     (tyler97217)      Join Date: Aug 2004       05-10-2012, 12:41 PM Reply
If you get the Progressive tower they are similar to the old towers. If you get the new S BEND tower it is simple to fold. Which one are you getting?
Old     (polarbill)      Join Date: Jun 2003       05-10-2012, 1:23 PM Reply
I think the I would go with the progressive on the 242. On the boat builder the Sbend tower looks too small for the boat. On the other 3 models though I think I would go with the Sbend. It looks really good with the bimini. Again, this is just going off of the boat builder.

The S bend looks alot better in person, and is much easier to fold than the Progressive. But if you want a Z5 bimini, you have to get the Progressive

thoughts on a mulibu vs supra?
I converted from a 2008 22 SSV to a 2011 Malibu VLX last season - I really enjoyed my Supra, but IMO it holds nothing to the Malibu for a more rider friendly wake, comfort, tower, Maliview, MTC, ballast system, wedge, and overall style and appearance. I always had a difficult time getting the wake to clean up on the 22 SSV, and I did not care for the bag only ballast system with no hard tanks or gauges. Also dont care for the "sloped" bow of the Supra line (22 and 242).... with a couple people in the bow it always rode super low in the water, and would take water easily (especially when my wife was driving).

The Malibu is great for the beginner all the way up to advanced rider without having to completely sac out your boat. I have been hoping Skiers Choice would completely re-design the 22 hull and deck, but still nothing. Personally, I dont think Supra is in the same category as a Malibu, the fit and finish, overall styling, options available on the Malibu stomp on the Supra. I spent 240 hours in my Supra and 147 hours in the VLX, so this is just my opinion and what I observed while owning and using both of them.

Definitely check out the LSV, its another great Malibu line, never ridden behind one but the wake is supposed to be very nice stock out of the box.
