I doubt the pain is from your binding hitting your calf. You are probably straining that muscle in some way. Stretch your calf before getting in the water. Recommendation: Upgrade your bindings. If your throwing backrolls then its time to get some high end bindings. I borrowed a pair of spins one day(did't have my gear with me). I came up short on a tantrum and nearly shoved my entire foot out the toe hole.
