Mastercraft porstar 190

I was wondering what kind of wake you can get for wakeboarding. Can you do flips and inverts. Where do you place the fat sacs for the best wake to do the advance tricks. I am on a very low budget and was wondering if a closed bow would be almost as good as a open bow. I can save $3,000 by buying the close bow. I am looking at 1986-1995.

I had a '92 PS190. It threw one of the best-ever slalom wakes, but I could not get a good wakeboard wake out of it, with up to 2000 lbs added. I would instead look at the PS205 and Nautiques from that era, especially the "2001" model. Much better wakes.

I'd also really lean towards an open bow. Closed bows become really cramped with sacks and more than a couple people. They cost a little more now, but you would also get the same value back in resale.

Basically for weighting, start with a ~600 lb sack on each side of the motor. Add weight from there if you want, distributed about 60/40 rear to front.

Good advice above. I am a MC owner, but I have to say the wake just isn't there on the earlier 190 boats. If you could find a 94 or newer 205 you would have a great boarding hull. The 195 is also good hull but are going to be more costly.

What about a 98 Mobius Moomba?

We had an 88 PS 190 years ago. No doubt the wake isn't much. But you can do inverts behind them.

82ish to 89 nautique 2001

I found a 98 Moomba Mobius on chicagomastercraft.com. Does this look like a good deal or should I go for a older Mastercraft or Nautique.

Are you really looking for a great wake on an older boat? If so your best bets are either a 95+ PS205 or an 82-89 Ski Nautique 2001.

Nancy, is the Mobius a DD?? I have a friend with an '03 Mobius, but I don't think the hull changed much. it's a DD, but sacked correctly throws an awesome wake!!

I'd go with a MC though, we have a '93 maristar 225 DD, and the wake really isn't that bad even when our sacks aren't full!!

What about a 92 Mastercraft maristar 210. I am trying to stay under $15,000. I want a good crossover boat. I still like to ski some.
The 98 Moomba Mobius is DD with the motor in the middle. The engine was replaced by riverviewmarine.com and is a 5.7L Chevy-block engine. It is a re-built motor and is in excellent condition with zero hours. I need to try to buy a boat under 22ft because the lake I go to is small.

well the Mobius is a wonderful boat, check the condition of the fiberglass, the trailer, check for rust on the engine, and if at all possible, get that boat in the water before you buy it!!!

As far as the Maristar 210, it's a great boat!! I'd be leary because I know it's a DD (MC didn't start making V-Drives til 94), and it's a smaller boat, I'd just be concerned with how many people you were trying to out in the boat!! We got 16 people in a nautique 210 (same size), but it was a v-drive with better seating.

Check the hours, fiberglass, and all that good stuff on the Maristar, and if it all checks out, I'd go with it over the Mobius!! Where are you located? MC customer service is wonderful, if you develop a good relationship with your local dealer, you'll never be left high and dry!! I've been working at Houston MC since it opened up a couple weeks ago, and MC Customer Service is unsurpassed!!

A 92 Maristar will be a Ford engine. Parts are a bit harder to come by, but can still be had.

Is the Mobius fuel injected? If so, I'd go for that.

Which dealer is better & closer for you?

The Master Craft dealer is. It is only an hour and river view is 3 hrs it is Master craft dealer also. I don't know if it is fuel injected, I will ask. I know a Moomba dealer in Anderson In. I hope he would service it or I will try MD Boats where I bought my 97 Moomba Boomerange the boat I am trading.

What MC dealer is close to you Nancy?? I know alot of the dealers throughout the U.S., and if that's a good dealer near you, it'd be worth it to go for the MC!!!

What about a 1994 Hydrodyne Grand Sport with 478 hrs. I have never heard of this boat.

There is a real hard push for MC on this thread by some one who works for a MC dealer. I have stoped by the Houston MC dealer and they are great people.

There are several boats that will do what you need and want them to do for that price. Be patient and you will find a good deal. Consider doing some travel to get one. If you find a boat that is to far I'm sure some one on this board might be close and could check it out for you. Look at the boats for sale on this board. There are some good deals.

check out Onlyinboards.com and Nautique fan. If I was on that budget I would go for a real clean 82-89 nautique 2001

Hydrodynes were great boats. They were known for missing the slalom ski market because they were heavy. And their well built. I've known several owners who had them for years without many issues. It is a direct drive though.
If it has a Mercruiser engine in it (so you can find a dealer for it), check it out.

I just wish it was 80 outside so I could try out these boats and buy one. Instead there is snow on the ground so I am just shopping around for that perfect boat. I would rather go though a dealer because I have a boat to trade and if something does go wrong I hope they will take of it for free if not at least at a discount.

Haha, I'm not employed by MC in any way shape or form, I have a very good relationship with my dealer, and have had nothing but pleasant experiences with MC boats! I love the boats, the quality, the customer service, and the feeling you get when you connect with another MC owner!!

Nancy, I'm looking for a dealer near you that'll fit your needs, I know there are some great dealers in the Carolina's that have great boat lots and would be willing to take a trade in, but I'm not sure about Indiana! I just sent out a few e-mails, and should hear back within the day!!

Be checking eBay, craigslist, and boattrader regularly for deals on a few boats that should be in your price range.

Thanks! If I can't trade my boat I can only afford mabey $10,000. I believe your not a dealer. Your bio shows that you are 19. So I think that means you are in college. I wish I were that age again and knew what you do. If I could do all over again mabey I would of bought a MC anything that holds 1,100 lbs +. I was also wandering how much wieght can a boat hold after the max on the yellow sticker. I know my little moomba has had around almost a 1,000 lbs and it says 680 lbs. It is a great boat for waterskiing which is all I knew when I bought it but now I am into wakeboarding and any idea on how to wiegh my little Moomba without sinking it or over turning it over. I know sometimes the driver gets wet when he hits the rollers wrong. If I can stand this boat for another season and try to sell it. I might be able to afford $20,000 that is if I sale it by fall. Ha Josh while you are at it find a water skier to buy my boat after the deal mabey I can pay you a $100.00. I am looking into putting it on onlyinboards.com soon and boats.com. Thanks again Josh. I can't believe the first response that a decent wake could not be found even with 2000lb. That's nuts, unless you're wakeboarding at 28mph. I had people doing inverts behind my 93 with 6 people in the boat and no ballast. The notion that 205 is any big improvement, they both throw a near identical decent wakeboarding wake. Now the 95+ is a different story, but 92-94 205's were near equal to the 190s. The 90 and ealier are a little narrower and with equal ballast can sink a little lower. I'll have to check my USCG sticker, but I think it says 8 or 9 people so base weight limits with that.

All of these boats were three event, not just for slalom but for trick too, which needed a bigger wake to...well, do tricks.

I need some info. If any of you live in Ill. I need some info on the 98 moomba at riverview marine. If you look at it on the website and look at in person and give me the go ahead or wait.

What about a 1994 Master Craft Pro Star 205? Would this be better than the 1992 Maristar 210. They are both the same price with about the same amount of hours. Which would make the best wakeboard wake?

I had a 94 205 for a number of years. I had it weighted with about 600 lbs of lead in the rear, gunnels & bow, plus a 250 lb sack in the locker. The wake wasn't huge, but it had a nice ramp, with a nice defined edge on it to make you pop off of.

MC based their X-star on this hull.

You hear alot more about the PS205, probably because in those years, it's a more common boat. One thing to consider is the 205 is a highly desirable boat if it's clean. If you buy it at a good price and it remains clean, you shouldn't have an issue reselling it in a few years for what you paid for it.
