The guys from
http://www.swimplatforms.com had a booth near to us at the LA boat Show. It's the kind of item that not many people look at.... and those that do, are ready to buy on the spot.
We talked to them a few times. Seemed like nice guys. Murphy likes the swimsteps with the slots in them for the foil, especially for teaching noobs. They were perfectly willing to make slotted swimsteps, or any other custom feature for that matter.
The other site, myswimplatforms.com is located very close to my house. I've heard of them, seen their ads, etc. But never seen their products up close. I mentioned them to the guys at the boat show & the first thing they said was that they use a wood core. May or may not be true, but might be worth asking while your doing your homework.
I went thru this a couple years ago myself. My teak was in good shape, I just wasn't interested in sanding & oiling it 2 or 3 times a year to keep it looking nice. So I sanded it one last time & had it Linexed with no grit... smooth. Then I put a neoprene Gator Grip pad on top of it. My boat lives on the water for months at a time.... first full season is down & it looks like new, very durable. Linex cost me $80, and can be done in a variety of colors. I've seen them done & after 4 yrs of use & still looking good. Might be an alternative if you can get past the whole teak thing.
