One of my many winter projects for the boat is the replace my OEM Clarion Marine (CM1632) component speakers on my tower. I plan on using the MasterCraft tower speaker cans. I have looked at the Kicker KM625.2, DAT and Focal speakers. I definately want something designed for the marine environment because my boat is on a covered lift all year long. I am running the tower speakers from a Kicker KX850.4 amp. I have wired each pair of tower speakers in parallel and running them from one of the four channels of my amp.

Suggestions would be much appreciated. I am leaning towards the Kickers because I have Kicker amps (KX-850.4 and KX-600.1). I am also running a Kicker 12" L5.

Look at this post from the past.

If you are dead set on the MasterCraft cans look at the POLK db series in the 6.75 inch as these will fit a 6.5 inch can, sound good, handle the wattage, moisture and reasonably priced.

Here's another link discussing the Pro Audio equipment.

I did my own Pro Audio set up (with a lot of help and great ideas from people here on WW) and will be posting that project for all to see and criticize soon.

If you can find them and have to go with "car audio" I would go with Cadence CVL-6k. They are 96db rated and handle 200 watt RMS. I had two pair on my last MC and put around 800 watts to them and they plain rip. They sound incredible and will destroy the Focals. Downside they're around $300 set and require alot of power. I would ditch the current cans and just go with a pair of Pro-80s much louder and more effiecent.

Polk Momo splits are the way to go for 6.5" Mastercraft cans. They sound great and look the goods.

X2rider -

Are those the MMC6500 Polk Mono speakers? What are you using to power them? I will be using a Kicker KX850.4. Each pair of speaker (I have 4 pairs) will be wired parallel thus each channel of my Kicker amp will see 2 ohms. At 2 ohms, the amp puts out 180W RMS. Is that too much for these speakers to handle?

I could be pursuaded to sell my 4 MasterCraft OEM tower cans and get a pair of the the Rubicon 450s. I went to Wakeside to get a look at these but they did not have too much info. Can someone help me fill in the blanks:

1) how far do they hang from the tower? I have bimini that I use and store on the tower and I don't want it to interfer with the tower speakers. Also, I don't want to be hitting my head on the speakers. I am 6'1" tall.

2) How much to they weigh?

3) Is there just two connections for each speaker cluster?

4) what is the speakers impedance (ohm)?

5) Will 2 channels of my KX-850.4 be adequate to run 2 Rubicon 450s?

Tom
I only have a cheap amp, I think it is 150w rms x 4. The speakers are rated at 180w rms continuos, so I guess you would be OK.

Tom, I ordered in 2 rubicon 450's for my 06 x-star. I had to send them back because they did interfere with my bimini. They are very deep speakers. My bimini is nice and high and I can walk under it, which is a feature that I really like, But it was a drawback with these speakers. They are 45lbs/ each if I remember correctly. They are 4ohm speakers and they only have 1 speaker connection for each cluster. I don't think that 2 channels of that kicker amp would be enough to power them.
