Are these amps the same as the Alpine PDX amps? They look identical.

I am having a PDX-1.600 and a PDX-4.100 installed in my truck. I a will be picking it up today. They are awesome amps and can't wait to hear it in my truck this afternoon. I am replacing a 900 watt JL wit the ones listed above.

no not the same. they just look similar. From what my buddy who manages the local shop has told me they don't sound quite as good as the pdx also. I'm still very interested in looking at them for the boat, they are very well priced and a nice small footprint. If you're not a complete audiophile then they may just fit the bill.

Used and hear both the ARC and Alpine products.

I would not say that they don't sound the same. Very similar in fact, internals are different for sure.

I would choose ARC because I use them often and they have GREAT reliability and customer service if a problem was to ever arise. I have had issues getting Alpine product fixed, mostly due tot he size of the companies. If it not in warranty Alpine does not care, where ARC will fix if for a very reasonable price.

Johnny,

After installing tons of Alpine PDX amplifiers, I can't remember ever having a bad one. The same goes for Alpine amplifiers in general. But shoot me an email because Alpine has authorized service centers and out-of-warranty service has been a breeze for us (unless it was purchased from an unauthorized dealer and has a bogus serial number).

David,

I wouldn't hesitate using the ARC Class D amplifiers for a moderate in-boat sub and satellite system. But they don't have anything in that line-up that is stout enough to really drive substantial tower speakers. So, you'd have to supplement the XXD with the ARC KS series for the tower. Don't confuse the ARC XXD with the Alpine PDX Class Ds. The Alpine PDX are more sophisticated and more powerful at a higher price of course. Two different animals. Both are great in their respective price range.

Great amps for the money. Excellent for a basic interior system. Check out the XXD5080. We have used this many times to run 4 speakers and a sub for a basic system. The XXD1500 also puts out a good amount of power and is an excellent budget alternative to the PDX-1.600.

Wow those are sharp looking amps I just wish they made them a little more powerful.
