Kind of an open ended question... Which of these boats can produce the best wakesurfing wake?

> Sanger V210

> Moomba Outback V (was called the Mobius LSV in '05??)

> Malibu V-Ride (same hull as the 2004 and older VLX??)

> Nautique Crossover SV-211

> Centurion, Storm Series, Cyclone C4

> Mastercraft X1, X2, or X7

> Tige 20V

Look for something with high gunnels so you can load it up. Ya, a 247 is a little big, what’s your size limit?

I’m going to ride behind an X1 the first weekend in October. I rode behind it this spring but the boat wasn’t ballasted as much as it is now. I need a little more wake than when I rode behind it last time.

I’ve ridden behind an older Malibu I forget the model. The owner said it was then same hull as the original Wakesetter. The boat was a d-drive. Properly weighted the wake was pretty good.

I’m kind of a Centurion guy but I don’t have much experience with anything but my boat and an Avalanche. The Cyclone is supposed to be a scalled down Avalanche. The Avalanche surf wake is really amazing. The new 21’6” Lightning should be pretty good, but that might be over the limit.

Hey Tim,

I can't speak for the other boats, but I get a decent wake on the V-Ride. Not 247 big for sure, but fun. I'm not blasting huge airs like James, Chase, and Drew :-) , but getting the fins out of the water on occasion...
See the vid to check the wake. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGOLYQb-JKU

Tim,

A friend of mine has a 21 ft VLX Wakesetter. He gets a good goofy wake but a weak port side wake. From what I've read on the net, you need about 2500 lbs of ballast to get a good port side wake. I have the X-1 (actually a 2005 X-2) that Ed was talking about. We probably run around 1300 lbs of ballast and get a very good port side wake. We surf anywhere between 9.5 to 13.5 miles per hour. The starboard side is a different story. We can only get a decent wake at 10.5 miles an hour. I love our 2005 X-2 but if I was a goofy rider, I wouldn't recommend the X-1 hull. A picture of our wake can be found at http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/87668/470540.html?1185544672. I agree with Ed about the Avalanche. Great goofy and regular wake. The rear walk through also make a great storage area for your quiver of boards.

Ya, that's Roy's boat.

Roy, I'm copying your videos from Nationals right now. I do think that both the Avalanche regular and goofy wakes are quite good. However as you can expect the Port wake looked a little better to my eye. After riding behind that Avalanche wake David says the Avy Starboard is much better than my boat, better even when I have 2,500 pounds of ballast.

Isn't the VLX is 21'6"?

Thanks for the input everyone.

21 foot is the limit at our lagoon. Anything longer and they won't let you ride.

I'll be buying something new this winter.

Sorry, the avalanche C-4, or the enzo throws the best wave hands down.

Too bad you can't go to 21' 6" because the Enzo 216 throws a GREAT surf wake. The Inland Surfer crew rode behind one at the Lake Tulloch contest and we all liked it.

The X1 will throw a very nice port wake with not much weight over stock. I actually prefer it to a 07 VLX setup with similar weight.

I surf behind a Sanger V210. It doesn't take as much weight as the bigger boats to get a nice wave. We met a guy Labor Day weekend with a Calabria V drive that was really impressed with our wake.

I will say the V-Ride will give you the best of all worlds. Great wakeboarding wake and a good surfing wake.

My V-ride wake looks pretty similar to Smedman's video above. I find the wake is a lot taller and cleaner with the wedge down. Some folks say the wedge ruins a surf wake, but after many days trying to get the wake dialed in with just ballast and speed adjustments, I never got anything right until the wedge came down. The wake is similar on either side of the boat, not as finicky about sides as the MC X-1.

Our V-210 works great, and not much different from port to starboard.
