Hey all,
I'm looking at buying a new boat and I have a couple questions about mastercraft. First is, what's the difference between all of the X-series boats, besides the size of the boat. Mainly in regards to wake I suppose. Second, by buying a Prostar and weighing it correctly and adding a tower, can you get a wake comparable to an X-star...close not exact?
Thx, Ben

The old x-star is now called the x-2. Check out the other boats at http://www.mastercraft.com.
We used to have a 94' prostar 205. We would put 1000lbs of water weight and a lot of people in it to get a good wake. The 01' X-star only needs stock ballast and about 7 or 8 people to get a good wake. Sold the 205 with a tower for.... Can't remember.... around $14,000-$15,000. It had well over 1000 hours.

I've also played around a bit with weighting a 190. It sucked. The wake had a decent shape but it still wasn't great no matter what we did. Some boats just aren't meant to have a big wake.

I now have an X2 (original xstar) and used to have a 99 Prostar 205 Direct Drive with a ZeroFlex tower on it. If you want to wakeboard both these boats will fit the bill. A lot of people like the x10 for it's versatility, wakeboarding, water skiing, etc.
Anyways back to your original question. My 99 Prostar had the same hull as the xstar and with 2,000 lbs. of ballast it threw an awesome wake. The Prostar 205v is the same thing as an older xstar or the current x2.

I think there is a hull modification on in 03. There is a little hook at the transome that helps keep the nose down and take rough water better. I have an 03 X9 which is direct drive. I really like it because you can easily throw out a slalom ski and have a pretty good run. It definitely not as good as the 190 or 195 but for a bigger boat it works good. If wakeboarding is all you are planning to do you probably want the X2 or older X start with the V drive, but if you slalom very much the direct drive sure is nice.

Matt- I love my x2 and can't imagine liking anything any better. I haven't seen the new xstar in person yet, maybe thats a good thing though! I know a guy that rode in/behind one and said it was unreal. That might be my ride in a year or two. Let them work out the kinks.
So your from Memphis huh? I live in Kingsport, all the way on the other end of the state in East TN.

I have an '02 X-10. It's wider than X2 and others so the wake is wider. Wake (with stock 3 ballast system) is pretty good, but rampy. Adding about 550lbs to front firms it up a bit. The added room (width in the boat) is great.
