I should be picking up my new boat Monday (Mobius XLV) if it passes my inspection. My budget is going to be near rock bottom after all of the outfitting...is it possible to get one surf board that will fit a range of beginners from skinny teens around 5-10 140lbs to the biggest one of us (ballast boy) 6-6 at 250lbs (I am in the middle!).

Thanks

A lot of people will give you a recommended size of board based on weight, but really I think it more has to do with skill and experience. I prefer smaller boards which have a weight limit considerably lower than what I weigh.

That being said, a board that is around 5 feet, give or take a few inches, should be good for most riders. The quality of the board and skill level it is for are going to affect the enjoyment more than length of board alone.

Since you are all beginners and larger riders, just look at a larger board for now. Basically, you will want to look at boards that are 4'11" and longer for now. Your largest (tall) rider if not experienced may still have trouble getting the hang of letting go of the rope. I find it is best to teach large/tall riders with a surfboard, a typical 6'4" to 6'8" is perfect.
