Mastercraft 205 weight

i have about 630 pounds in the back, and 260 in the front. i ride with about 4-5 people.

is this too much weight? the lake i ride on gets a little choppy and there can be good size rollers.

what do you think?

No such thing as too much weight. Just not enough horsepower. It all depends on your skill level.

FYI. The 205 hull really likes weight up front. I say either double the up front weight or be sure to keep 2 people up there and you'll have a pretty good wake. I usually run the weight about 50/50 or even 60/40 front to back.

I put a 600 in the back, fill the under floor ice chest, put a 600 in the nose as far forward as possible, and put 350s on both sides of the engine. With that the wake is good, add 5-10 people and it is crowded (understatement) but the wake is mackin!

On our old 205 I used to put six hundred pounds of lead in the back. Then a fat seat on top of that. Then four hundred pounds of lead in the front and a fat sack on top of that. It was great wake. I thing even nicer then our X2/X1 wake is now.

Our '99 205 dd produces a good wake with 750 sac in the trunk, 350 in the ski locker and 400 in the bow. Usually ride with 2-3 people.

Exactly what Heavy said, but add another 100lbs of lead under each 350 sac and 200lbs of lead to the nose under the front seats, then spread about 900 lbs more around the cockpit pretty evenly and roll with about 5 people. That makes it proper.

If you're rolling with less people, then add a 500 sac to the floor in the cockpit.

Ant, yeah my dad has a '98 205 DD. We started small back in the day and I incrementally kept adding sacks to the point its at now. We have to keep it light because my dad is a pretty hard core skier and he takes his sets and then we fill her up.

We are a pretty funny sight, the boat has an Air Boom and no Perfect Pass. We always get stink eye from the cool wake boats as we are filling up at the south end of Havasu. They go over our roller a couple times and then get out of my way! One guy came over once cuz he thought we were sinking. Haha.

If you aren't worried about rollers, then you don't have enough weight in the boat.

Water in the bow just means more ballast!!! With any boat water can come over the bow, certain situations call for a good submarine. If you want to avoid it then just pay attention and don't go stuffing the bow into rollers. Pay attention and use common sense.

nah that's what your bilge pump is for! I have a 02 X-Star same Hull as the 205, I slam it out with 4Klbs Plus of weight. I am not going to like we do take the occasional bow waive, but its really no big deal as long as you dont mind getting your boat soaked.

How big are these rollers on your lake? They cannot be much bigger than the roller you create are they?

andy there are often white caps on the lake.

do boats cause the lake to be choppy or is it wind?

its almost always windy.

Ahhh to be young, have a computer and a million questions.... Just messing with you Jack. Think about it buddy, you know what makes a lake choppy it's not rocket science. If there are boats then they cause rollers, if there is wind it causes wind chop, God save everyone if there are both!

Last thing I'll say is.... our dads have the same boat, good color choice!

I've got a '98 205 and I put a 1500 fat seat in the back and a two or three sacs up front 500-1000lbs.

The bow does go under sometime but as long as you make sure your bilge is working it shouldn't be a big deal.

Once I went out with out putting the plug in the bottom, Than caused problems. I got to the end of the lake and the boat was handling like it was full of weight yet I hadn't filled anything up. Soon after water started coming up out of the engine compartment, fast. Luckly I live on a small lake and made back into the lift and the only thing I had to fix was the starter.

So anyway water over the bow is pretty minor, and can be fun if you have some hotties relaxing up front un-suspectingly.
