May 22nd 2004
Event #2
Two Cow Cove, Lake Pleasant

Paradise Watersports & Fluid Concepts
are Teaming Up Again!!

Once again Paradise WaterSports and Fluid Concepts are gearing up to throw down the biggest AWA event of the season. The race for the points championship continues this weekend - May 22 - at Lake Pleasant's Two Cow Cove. For all of you who have been to a Paradise / Fluid event in the past, you know how it goes down. For those who haven't, you're missing out. As always, there will be a big party on Friday night to kick off the weekend, and a Ca$h Money Double-Up contest in the middle of the afternoon on Saturday.

Paradise WaterSports is the longest running sponsor of the AWA...they have been there from the beginning and have never let us down. Make sure you come out and support them, because for years they have been supporting you! (Not to mention you will get to ride behind the baddest wakeboard boat around...Malibu's WakeSetter VLX!!!)

For the past few seasons, Fluid Concepts has been teaming up with Paradise WaterSports to collectively throw our Wakeboard Associations biggest, most enjoyed events. When they get together on something like this, you never know what may happen. Make sure you come out to ride or just hang out....it promises to be a great weekend.

Fox Sports Net is Pumping Up the AWA

Attention AWA members. FOX SPORTS.NET did a story on the AWA that will air this week.

The clip will air during the Arizona Sports Report on Thursday, May 20 at approx. 9:40. During the filming of the clip, an attempt was made to encourage female riders to come out to our upcoming AWA event and compete. You'll get to see Michelle and Darci doing some riding and pumping up the sport of wakeboarding to fellow female wakeboarders. You'll also get to see AWA V.P. Walt Chantler and AWA Photographer David Randall representing for the 30+ crowd. Let's all hope for a positive outcome and a good representation of the AWA.

This will be the 2nd time that the AWA has been featured on FOX. Last year they ran a clip that included Walt Chantler, Mike Cooper & Outlaw rider, Mike Fulton. It was a nice piece.

April 24th Wrap Up

The AWA had its first tournament of the year last month on the 24th of April. It was a huge success and drew a crowd of over 300! There were 60+ riders competing for prizes. A special thanks goes out to our host sponsors, Wakeboard & Ski Marine and the Bartlett Lake Boat Club. These two sponsors did an excellent job of helping us promote the event and supporting the sport of wakeboarding in Arizona. John Harrison of Wakeboard & Ski Marine provided two Calabria Pro-V's to pull the event, including our Official Tow Boat. The boats performed well and had huge wakes!

A special thanks also goes out to Chris Blumhagen of Kor Gear, for bringing out the grill and providing hamburgers and hotdogs for all!! Chris has committed to bringing his grill out for this weeks event, so look forward to checking out all of the great stuff Kor has to offer and getting a burger or hot dog to boot!! Chris is accepting donations but they are not required.

Thanks to the EDGE 103.9 for airing the event on the radio and bringing out the crowd.

This weekend, Paradise Watersports and Fluid Concepts will host the 2nd tournament of the season. The tournament will be pulled using Malibu boats. Dustin of Paradise and Jerry from Fluid always throw a great event. You can expect lots of games and opportunities to win prizes even if you're not riding. Dustin will also be providing T-shirts for all competitors free of charge!

Come on out and join us. Bring your lawn chairs, shade structures and sunscreen. It will definitely be an event to remember. There will be great music provided by the EDGE and some of Arizona's best riders showing what they're made of.

Reminder: Practice will only be run from 7:00 - 8:30, so don't be late!

If you're still chicken about competing - try out our new non-competitive class and leave the driving to us. You won't get prizes, points or the thrill of competing, but you'll get the chance to board in front of a crowd and ease your way into a competitive class - not to mention you'll be riding behind a 2004 Malibu.

Just an FYI, due to increased costs, the AWA will not be reserving the cove for Sunday riding. Lake Pleasant received complaints last event from the Park Ranger in regards to people claiming to be AWA members riding in the cove. They have warned us that this will be closely monitored this year. Please contact the AWA with any questions or concerns.

Tom,

Congrats on your new baby Tom! Getting much sleep?

We will be coming again with Eddie and Jacob Valdez. Cooper Swink, a 9 year old ripper out of Canyon Lake will also be there.

Props to Fluid Concepts for hosting the event!

Robyn,
What is up with these kids??? First of all, they are way to well behaved.. 2nd the 15+riders in the advanced class are not happy about getting killed by a 10 year old.. The boys killed it! (again) our Grom class was also dominated by a Cali boy Cooper Swink,... whats in the water out there??

Hey Tom, and all the AWA'ers. thanks so much for your awesome hospitality to the boys and Josh. Remember when they rode at Firebird at the Phoenix Pro Am?? It must have been the fuel in the water that got it all started!! God is good Tom for sure, that is who I thank for their behavior!! Thanks again for your encouragment to our family!! Hugs, robyn
