We have a black scorpion that even when it is warm starts about 35-40 percent of the time on the 1st try but instantly every time on the second try. It will usually starts than dies right away on the 1st try, but starts instantly on the 2nd start every time. I have changed the plugs, cap, and rotor as it is efi and it still does the same thing. Any suggestions?
Thank you

Are you giving the fuel pump enough time to prime the fuel system before turning the key? Try giving it a little throtle when starting. That will triger the tps sensor so when it fires it will give a shot of gas.

do you pump it before you crank it or?

No pumping it won't do any thing. Turn the key on and wait 5 seconds before trying to start. You want to give it some throttle as your cranking it or just push the throttle down some and then crank it. Make shure the prop is not engaged though LOL!

Is it a GM computer??? This happens in some GM trucks (similar engine computers as boats), been told it's something about an internal switch that needs a key cycle to switch back on. If I ever actually figure it out I'll post.

Cheers,
DC

I'm with Aaron when starting you should turn the key to on wait for a few seconds then crank it. This allows the fuel pump to prime itself and pressurize the lines.
