looking for a good all around lens. When I bought the camera I bought the body only so I did not get the 28-135. Thanks in advance!

17-40L might fit the bill.

I like the 24-105L but it isn't all that wide on a 1.6X crop body. How about the 17-85 or 17-50 Canon's?

a better question to ask.. how much are you wanting to spend? L series lenses are expensive.

Also do you want/need a lower f2.8 f-stop?

I think that 28-135 sounds good for close ups and nice framed wake boarding shots from the boat (won't be super tight, but they will look good)

I want a high end lens. I have a 70 200 2.8 is but I need something that I can shoot with the majority of the time. the 17-40 L is a great lens but I was looking to cover the missed areas like the 17-85.How is that lens?

The 17-85 is not an L by any means but it's a solid lens.

Depends on what all you are looking for.

I borrowed a friends 24-70 2.8 while in Hawaii a few months ago to try is as a good walk around lens. I had been debating between it and the 17-55/2.8 IS EF-S. I really liked it, but never really needed 2.8 ever and could have used a little more zoom (i have a 1.6 crop 400d). I think I have decided to get the 24-105/4 L as a walk around. You can find them usually on a deal on craigslist from guys who have bought a 5d kit and don't need the lens.

The other lenses I use the most are (in no order)

70-200/2.8 IS
10-22/3.5-4.0 EF-S
85/1.8

After getting the 24-105, I plan to get the 100/2.8 macro to complete most everything I can see I would need most often.
