6 speakers - 4 channel amp

I have 6 spkrs in the boat and one four channel amp. Is it better to wire all 6 to the amp (2 in parrell or series I guess) or should I run the 2 spkrs in the bow of the boat directly to the HU? And if I wire them to the HU, will they blow if I have the volume turned up too loud or will they just be a lot quieter than the 4 spkrs wired to the amp?

I wired the 4 in the main area of the boat to the a 4-channel and left the 2 speakers in the bow to be powered by the head unit. They're not as loud or as clear, but the bow isn't an area that people usually hang out on while on my boat.

I did the same thing David did. But beware... at least w/ my set-up I can take my volume all the way up to the max of 33 and everything is loud and clear w/ no distortion and plenty of headroom. But by doing this, I blew one of the front speakers in the boat b/c the head-unit just doesn't put out enough power. Luckily Kicker said they would warranty it and so now I am gonna put those speakers on a spare channel I have on one amp.

My stock 211 Team Edition Nautique came factory wired just like Ronia & Davids setup.

hmmm. i know its probably easiest to wire like that. speakers blow because they don't get clean power. i would probably look for some distribution blocks to wire all the speakers to. then wire the blocks to the amp. all speakers same sound with clean power.

Well I don't plan on turning my volume all the way to the max either though.

I run the 6 speaker configuration often on my customers boats. I wire them in series then parallel then bridge the amp to 2 channels. Best quality of sound with the least amount of sacrifice $$.

Johnny's method is probably the most electrically balanced utilizing a 4 channel amp most effectively to power 6 speakers.

With the tower speakers on my boat the ladies sometimes head to the bow for a little peace and conversation. To best accomodate this I run the bow off two of the channels and utilize a PAC-LC1 to turn the speakers up or down as needed. I run the remaining four cabin speakers on the rear channels of the amp (parallel wired, 2 ohm load). This has worked well.

I know its not ideal to run subs in series/parallel combination. I've heard it's one or the other, not both. Hss something to do with the speakers being in phase.
