Last year I was riding an EVO. I just baught a Substance. I am still a beginner. I need help on how to pop properly with this 3 stage board. I have ridind it about 6 times and I still haven't figured it out . Please give me some tips on what I need to concentrate on.... distribution of weight? poping at the right moment? how to feel the '3stage effect' ?...

just ride it like you did with your evo and you should feel a little bit more pop

Punch the tail down at the wake.

how can you not pop on that thing. I thought that was the easiest pop to figure out ever. I came from a '02 Byerly 137 and the substance was as consistent as a continuous. I ride it kinda heavy on the front foot, and give it a little ollie at the wake.

It seems to me that 3 stage is more of an "ollie" style pop. Not that you can't apply the same edging techniques; just that 3 stage can be much more predictable if you work the pop by loading the tail at the wake. Be careful though, it is easy to release too early or load too late and miss the pop you are expecting. Good luck!

Just pretend like you're riding your EVO. You're thinking about it too much and expecting it to be too different.

Thanks for your advice. It's not that I don't pop, but I haven't mastered the best way to do it yet. I will try to do it like an olie....

Wakeboarding is not about ollieing off the top of the wake. Instead it is about loading the line and standing tall. You might want to try pumping the trough of the wake. By this I mean push your legs out at the bottom of the wake. This will cause you to stand up and should send you sky high. Also ride front foot heavy at the wake to stay balanced.

I agree with Peter. Load it up and go. Doing the Ollie kick at the top of the wake is not the answer. You don't need to jump. The whole idea of "POP" is that as you go hard at the wake the shape of the board makes it "POP" of the wake. Now if you want to do anything to increase the pop you can press real hard at the wake. What I mean by that is as you head toward the wake you bend your knees more and compress yourself so when you hit the top of the wake you press real hard like you are trying to do a leg press but you are starting to stand tall. My dad calls it c o m p r e s s and EXPLODE. Hope that is not to stupid.

ya man, just cut outside your heelside wake far as you can, let your trailing hand off the handle and put your meanest face on(for looks and mentality), then grab the handle get on your edge and get low (if you want to generate some MASSIVE pop try to get so that your ass is nearly skipping on the water) and keep your back mostly straight (so you dont get thrown on your head or ass), then when you get to the transition of the wake, STAY ON YOUR EDGE and KICK against wake and try to keep your hips mostly in the same position(so you dont lose your pop by merely standing and losing the load in the line), try to crush the wake. youll probably get chucked pretty hard if you do it right it takes a lil practice, good luck. that is what works for me for knees bent style riding 3-stages.
