Jessica,

Water in wakeboarding boats is to help weight the boat down to create a larger and shapely wake for the rider. I/O means Inboard Outboard motor. Most wake/ski boats are inboard boats, most fishing boats are outboard boats, and most family type boats are in/outboard boats.
