Question on tantrums:

I've landed a few tantrums then forgot how to do them, now i'm trying to relearn them. On some, usually the first of the day, I rotate to blind. Most the guys that I ride with think I mean to do it, but I don't like to disillusion them. Why do I go to blind and how do I prevent that and come out with a nice clean one?

Always keep your lead elbow close to your body. Dont let your arm get locked out. And dont throw your head or look over your trailing shoulder. Keep in mind this is a backflip. Always wait for the pop and spot the landing early.

Hi there, Matthew gave great advice. Be sure that you keep your shoulders level with each other through the whole process. If you let you front shoulder drop or turn your head towards the boat, you will go to revert. Same is true with blind. Be sure you are looking straight back and everything is in line.
Hope that helps.

My buddy had this same problem, it was getting pretty scary! He was always initiating his flip by turning his head back and looking over his back shoulder. People seem to want to be able to see the water during their entire rotation, this just isn't possible. You have to trust the mechanics of it: wait for the pop (extremely important) and then throw your head and shoulders straight back. The trampoline was really helpful for my friend so if you have access to one it may help! Good luck!

My buddy and I had this same discussion. He was doing the same thing, but I wasn not. We both learned the mechanics of a tantrum from the Higher Education dvds. After reviewing tapes of ourselves, It was clear that he was opening up to the shore too late, and too hard. He was opening up, looking over his shoulder and throwing backwards at the same time. The above advice is good, throw straight back. I like looking over my shoulder to orient myself, so I open my shoulders about 5 feet from the wake, line up the board in the trough, start to stand as I go up the wake, throw straight up and back, and look over my shoulder as I pull the board up.
