So me and some friends were just doing some talking this weekend after being at the MAdison boat show and seein g the prices of new rides. DO you all reallly think the newer boat wakes behind boats like the BU LSV and the MC X-Star and Nauti 230 are that much better than those of the past like the VLX/X-Star(205V)/210. I have only had limited time behind an LSV, well the newer one, as I own the older version. Must say it had a different shape, was a bit firmer, but I don't know that it was that much bigger.

Do you think any of the pro's would be rocking the older boats if companies didn't force(I mean give them) new boats to ride each year?

yes they would. The new 210 is a step down and everyone knows it. Thats why their "darlings" get 230's. Groms get the 210.

The 220 and 230 are another story because they are bigger and there is little to compare.

Someone needs to buy nautiques old 210 and 2001 molds because those wakes are awesome. I cant believe nautique stopped making the 210. The 2001 would be a great boat to turn into a vdrive and offer at under $30k

the only problem with the 2001 mold is it way too small of a boat to sell in todays market.

the old 210 could make it as an entry boat for sure...or they buy up all the old supersports, redo the inside and old, sell them for 40k and make a profit

I don't know if I would agree with you on that. If I did not have kids I would certainly prefer a smaller boat for my water sports especially if the price was right. It would be cheaper to moor, cheaper to store and most likely better on fuel consumption.

Man... I hope you didnt come all the way down to madison just for the boat show!

It would be hard to consider one wake better then another across the board. Everyone is going to have their own preferences. For example, everyone loves the 2001 hull.... except me! Or at least it seems! Anyways... point being, if you can find an older boat that has a wake that suits you, then go with it!

Couldn't disagree more with what The Truth wrote. I own an '04 210, have the wake dialed, really like it. The '07 210s that I have been behind (Hyperlite rep's, Team Valdez) have been absolutely sick, a bit more rampy, but just as solid, peaky.

Midwest- the problem with the 2001s is that their floors or stringers are going. I think it is a perfect size boat for guys who want to just go wakeboard with 3 or 4 friends yet have a great wake. A vdrive 2001 would be awesome and if one was sold under 30k, I dont think it would have a problem selling.

I don't think there is a big difference in the wake between old and new models.

The biggest difference is that people are looking for more comfort and gadgets and bling... and some are looking for more room... so we are seeing some bigger models available...

But if you compare 21s to 21s and 22s to 22s... I dont think you will see a big difference in wake size and shape...

The one thing you will notice is that the newer models offer easier ways to get bigger wakes... internal ballast etc... where as the older model you will be using a fat sack etc...

If you can get your hands on a 2000... MC 205V or SAN210 or BU VLX... in good well taken care of condition... with the right weight... you wont see any difference in the wake...

But you will in your wallet.


I went with a Supreme... so with the $30,000 I save from the big names... I dont use water for ballast...

I use loonies and toonies!

I would think a re-release of the 2001 would need to have an open bow to sell even at $30k

On the note above I am more than happy hanging on to my 2000 205V for a long long time

And, damn, boats have gotten expensive!

$40K bought my BU VLX loaded up. Now you need to spend 1.5X that. $60K to $70K for a boat is insane!

I think for most riders the old school boats put out a great wake without large amounts of ballast. However if you want a stupidly ginormous wake the new bigger wake boats can't be matched but you have to be prepared to run 3000-4000 pounds of ballast to get there.

When gas hits $5 per gallon, a CC 2001 vdrive that sips gasoline will be the dream boat!

If I'm not mistaken, most (almost all) of the older 2001s were carburated. EFI will get you way better fuel effiency.

Our old-skool 2001 with carburated 454 equiped for wakeboarding (ballast) has a better fuel economic then any Mastercraft (X1-X2-X15-Xstar-Xcetera) with EFI which is being sold today.

The boat companies are greatly lagging in fuel economics imho. I would really like to see a 2-3 gallons/hour v-drive in the market (Toyota could do it 10 years ago)...

Ontopic; I owned old hulls like the 2001, and newer like the X1 and 2006 210. Now going for a 230, with every hull change you feel the difference. Their used to be 2 really good hulls in the 90's; 95+ supersport and the 205V, nowdays their is more choice. Every wakeboardboat on the market is making good wakes nowdays. When buying new is more or less personal brand preferences, a subtile wakedifference, interior space, etc... Give new hulls better wakes then old ones. Perhaps a little. Are new boat more expensive then the old one. Alot!

I'm already there with my 2000 SAN. My boat consumes approximately 1/2 the fuel of the other newer boats I ride on. Add to that the fact that it only needs 1500lbs of ballast to make a great wake, and your looking at a boat that's going to stand proud when fuel prices hit the $4 a gallon mark this summer.

I just made the jump from a 2001 hull to a 98 Super sport. There is no way I would buy a new 2001 for 30K when I could by a Super Sport for 20k+/- that might have 300 hours on it. There are tons of Super Sports that have low hours because they were in the day a grandpas boat. I know of several on my lake alone that are doctors boats that hardly ever get used and just sit in a boathouse. That is where I got mine. So as long as there is a supply of used SS's then I cant see them ever bringing them back.
