ballast and speed?

so im out with my friend on his buddies boat and he loads up his malibu with 4,500 lbs of ballast and then 5 people in it and basically the boat looks like it is under water. but once he gets it planed out he rides at 29-30 mph at 90 ft rope. its unreal how big he goes and makes a lot of other good wakeboarders just look mediocre. Do any of you ride like this or know people that do? i think it may just be a new way to go bigger and better? what do you think?

What I was after is if this person is from Fremont that she saw ridin, due to he is the only one I know of that does ride with that boat,speed,weight,and rope 90'...Doooooood hahaah.

i was around there for the first half of the season...4000-4500 lbs of ballast, 87 ft, 27-28 mph. lol, but the $$$ situation and my knees and ribs at this point in the season has me riding with only 3200 lbs...but i'm still at 87 ft, 27 mph.

The fastest rider I know personally is like 24mph at 80 ft lol and he sounds mediocre compared to a lot of people on this board but hes def the best where im from.

So what exactly is the benefit of riding so fast with so much weight? To me the wake shape seems similar with 1500lbs, 70ft, 23mph, and with 4500lbs, 90ft, and 29mph. Ive never ridden that fast so what is the benefit for someone who knows what its like to ride like that?

Hangtime. With that long of a line and charging the wake you can spend way more time up in the air then on a short rope at slow speeds. That is, though, if you're running enough weight to get a nice big firm wake.

when you run that much weight you need to be going 26-28 in most boats. the weight and speed makes that wake rock hard. the longer rope let's you float in the air longer. also if you ride that fast the wake will most likely be super skinny. in my boat (2000 XStar) the wake really seems to get noticeably bigger once you get over 4000 lbs.

it really depends on what type of rider you are or want to be. longer lines, faster speeds, more weight, those are usually things that indicate a person is wanting to end up out in the flats. more weight, a little speed, and normal rope lengths (80'-85') would taylor to a more W2W style.

he still can do wake to wake tricks you just dont have to cut out much at all. with a 90' rope you can cut out very far and when you cut in, the wake is so hard it hucks you waaaaaaay into the flats, so he can throw all wake to wake tricks out into the flats with not as much effort. just likes to go big i guess. i wonder how hard that is on the body though?

very good friends with pete, we hang out a lot because he's good friends with my hubby. my man just makes a great fat sack for his boat but cant board now because of football. but pete kills it on the regular. he is landing T 7's now

Well you know who I am then, you and your hubby rode with my 7 year old son and 6 year old daughter out at fremont lakes one evening, Pete went to comp's with us down to Kansas. Tell your hubby to keep up the good work on the team.

They are doing good, Gavin finished 4th for the year in Kansas, Great for his first year! Halle rides totally awesome, she is going to make Gavin really work hard to beat her next year. I talked to Pete on Tuesday about getting together to ride, since we haven't rode much in the past few months. We have to all get together for a day we all love hanging out with you and your hubby you are great people to be around. I'll set something up with Pete and I'm sure he will let you guy's know. I have had a couple of really good riders behind my boat. I noticed that the REALLY good riders are/were able to go W2W or out into the flats...all just a matter of cut and line tension.

I Do! 87 Feet at 28.5 MPH with an Honest 5K in my ride!

yeah i hear that too, i know some people that ride out longer on bu's than mc's or others. so i have a question, if you were to load a brand new bu vlx and a MC xstar and a nautique 210 team add. with maximum ballast and balanced perfectly and perfect speed, both of them now, which would have that irresistable wake? the one that feels sooo ready..!

For me The X-Star for sure, that wake get so MASSIVE, its so fun to just launch giant grabs off of.

id say a malibu vlx or 23lsv or a nautique 230 would be my first choice the xstar fully macked out would be a close third then probably an epic

where's ryan the hawaiian? Whenever he comes out on our bu - around 3k of ballast at like 26-27 and a mile and a half back.

I rode for a couple summers at like '85 feet at 25ish, I've slowed down to the mid 23s 80feet and the falls hurt less sometimes. Personal preference I guess
