I'm not much of a Mastercraft guy, so I know very little about either.
Can anyone give me a brief description of the differences between the two.
I'm guessing that the Maristar is more of a all around family boat but is there any reason one couldn't add a tower, sac it out and still have a great boat for the sport.

The reason for asking...

Any input would be great, thanks.

Hi Ryan,
Having put a tower and ballast on a non wake specific boat in the past and looking at what you have the potential to spend, I recommend you buy an X Series as it will keep its value better than a modified Maristar.
You will also save time, money and hassle not having to modify the maristar.
The differences are that the x-series have the zero flex tower, wake specific perfect pass, triple KGB ballast and X graphics and it will probably have had a stereo upgrade also.
Go for the X you will kick yourself if you don't once you get into the sport further!
Look at Xstars, X2, X7, X10 and x30.

As you probably already know the X10, X30, X45 and X80 are all just maristars with a wakeboarding package. John is correct, you would be better off buying the boat in the "X" form for resale and because you will probably want to add all of those features at some time anyways.

i agree with ben, that seems to be a great deal...check out the price of a similar x10 (avg price of about 40k) The hulls are identical (i think)

you could add a tower and auto ballast system for around $3700 - 4100)...you could foreseeably breakeven after using the boat a couple of years...I put the tower on mine last season and will be installing the ballast system shortly...

Will it give you the perfect wake of an X1 or Xstar, probably not...However, I am willing to bet it would suit your needs and then some.

X10s throw a very nice wake when weighted properly.

sorry, didn't see the ebay link and i can't check it while at work. What kind of deal is being offered on the 210 Maristar?

Thanks for the input, I was just trying to weigh some of my options. I guess I was more interested to see if this was a good deal for that boat and if was worth the time/$ to upgrade it to my needs.

Just looking saw this one and got me thinking.

As Matthew Byrd stated, most MasterCraft boats have an 'alter ego'...being the X-series. For example, my Prostar 205V is the hull for the original X-star, then X2, now X1. The Maristar 210 was (no longer in production) the X10.
Here's what mine looked like on the floor...

And here she is now (tower and Perfect Pass put on by dealer. Ballast and heat a DIY by me.)

Nice example. I'm all for it. I paid wayyy tooo much for my x series, even though I love her to death.

My understanding of Maristars is that they actually have a different hull than the X boats. The Maristar hull has more V and able to take chop better, and provide a less harsh ride. It was designed to be a pleasure and cruising boat, rather than ski or wakeboard performance. Their wake is more of a lump, instead of having a nice defined peak.

the hulls on the maristar series boats are identical to the x series hulls. the xstar and x1 and are the only two x boats that dont share a hull with a maristar boat. for example a x45 and maristar 245 have the same hull. the difference is in what your buying the boat for and the look you want.

My mistake then, sorry if any of that was misleading. I was just restating information I was told by a dealer around 1997-1998ish... Perhaps the Maristars had different hulls back then. It does make sense that the more recent X boats do share the same hulls like Billy says.

All x series boats apart from the current X star have shared hulls with other MCs. Original Xstar was a prostar 205, X5 is a prostar 190, x9 a prostar 209, x10 a maristar 210, x30 a maristar 230 and so on....

You can get a god deal and often better wake/performance by X ing up a maristar or prostar. Many people junk the existing ballast systems and replace them so why spend money there? Again loads of people mod their interiors, stereo etc so why pay for standard fit stuff you'll remove anyhow.

Of course resale on an X series will be better so you need to consider how long you'll keep it for but I would consider buying a well modded non X series (Like Paul Brothers) over a standard x series boat.

First ever X-Star I believe was 1997 and it was the Pro Star 205 DD and then in I think 98 up to 03 was the Pro Star 205 V. X5 (original X-Star) = Pro Star 205 DD.

1997 & 1998 X-Stars are DD

205V's started in 1999, ended in 2005

whether its a 205 (post 1996) or 205V its the same hull therefore the same wake if ballasted equal.
