It's ok to put trans fats in foods and say there are none. It's ok to sell foods loaded with sugar and fat without a warning label to say how unhealthy they are. It's ok to let ecoli infected cow s**t from corn fed cattle spread to our vegetables from over crowded meat farms. But if a company selling natural basic foods says it's good for you then the FDA has to step in and tell them they are breaking the law. The FDA is a lot worse than this at depriving us of our freedom of choice. But this should be obvious to everyone that the FDA is misguided and oppressing our right to information. Who in the f**k but the FDA thinks buying walnuts is buying a drug if someone says it's good for your health.

Oh, yeah, they've been doing this crap for a while. They snuck it through a couple of months ago, my mom was furious when she found out.

The FDA is an overly oppressive agency that is stealing away our freedoms in a way that the average person can't relate to. However, this particular case seems to demonstrate how wrong they are in a way that anyone should see.

If you're tl;dr...

In a nutshell, the FDA is telling Diamond nuts that they can't tell people that the omega 3 fats in their nuts are good for your body in the ways that omega 3 fatty acids are commonly stated to be good for you. If they do, then the walnuts are classified as a drug.

Here are the things that a walnut company can't tell you....

Quote:
• "Studies indicate that the omega-3 fatty acids found in walnuts may help lower cholesterol; protect against heart disease, stroke and some cancers; ease arthritis and other inflammatory diseases; and even fight depression and other mental illnesses."

• "Omega-3 fatty acids inhibit the tumor growth that is promoted by the acids found in other fats ...

• "In treating major depression, for example, omega-3s seem to work by making it easier for brain cell receptors to process mood-related signals from neighboring neurons."

• "The omega-3s found in fish oil are thought to be responsible for the significantly lower incidence of breast cancer in Japanese women as compared to women in the United States."

• "Studies have also shown that omega-3s may lower the risk of stroke ..."

• "There's good evidence that omega-3s can increase HDL (good cholesterol), further reducing the risk of stroke and heart disease.""

The only logical explanation for targeting things like organic foods and alternative/holistic medicine is because of pressure from the food and pharma lobbies. The FDA uses a thinly veiled "truth in advertising" vindication to censure industries in competition with those that line politicians' pockets. It is disgusting and should be criminal.

This is my favorite article about food, the government, and unintended consequences...
