Dopest!!! Ya gotta check out the new VLX. I was droolin' this past weekend up in Shasta. Criss from Oasis watersports had his new one. It is so big inside, it feels like the 23'. The new dash and glove box is the sicest combo and the interior is the best of all boats, period. I cant wait to get my new one. Anybody want to buy a 03 VLX? Take a look at it in my bio.

I've never ridden behind a Tige.... But, I HAVE ridden behind MasterCraft, Nautiques and Bu's. I think the Super Air Nautique has the sickest wake... but the Bu is definitely a close second. Not as big, but definitely very good shape with lots of pop.....

i think mastercraft has the sickest wake. i have went behind the other boats. and there is no comparison. my 1991 mastercraft maristar 26 footer, 454 chevy, 350 hp. 2 and a half foot wake. with no weights in the boat. i went behind the malibu and the wake sucked.

Both are great boats. (Keep in mind though I have a Malibu). However, for the same options and features you can get a loaded 'Bu several thousands cheaper in my area than a Mastercraft. I love the looks of the '05 Malibu's. I think they are the best looking out there. But you need to test drive both and ride behind both and decide for yourself on the wake, since that is what is really important. Make sure though you have equal weight in both when comparing size. I've seen so may say "oh the wake sucked" but the wake they were judging was not weighted out and there was 3 people in the boat and 2 were girls...

ok i did not mean what i said. i just like mastercraft better. the malibu i went behind was a 2005 malibu. i went behind it at a wakeboard tournament. so they usually have the best there. well compared to my boat. it was nothing. even though my boat is older. when we take our boat out every one around wants to wakeboard. it was the cadalac of boats in its time.

"i went behind the malibu and the wake sucked." ...as if there were only 1 Malibu. Make sure you're comparing apples to apples Glenn. Same speed? Rope Length? Any boat can make a 2.5 foot wake at 19 mph. Tournaments boats are pulling fast. A friend of mine has an older boat. He came out to ride with me and said, "the wake on my old boat is way bigger." So I went to go ride with him. He was pulling at 20-21 mph with a 60 foot rope. Once he bumped the speed up to my preference (24 mph) the wake was a speed bump.

i went the same speed and used the same rope leangth. i go 20. and that is what they pulled me at the tournement. ok the malibu i went behind to me the wake sucked. it is my own opinion. so if u dont like it then. then that is fine. because at the tournement they asked what i wanted to be pulled at. and i said 20. tha tis what i go on my boat to. and at the same speed for both boats. i liked mine better. other people that have been behind them say they liked mine better. so that is what i think.

glen, a little more clarification please. Which tournament??? and what lake or river. Typically if you are on a private ski lake, they are only 5-6 ft deep and I dont care what kind of boat you are behind, its almost impossible to get a decent size wake, and what J-Rod said

O.K. #1.I'm wondering what boat you rode behind because there are not alot of 2005's out on the water yet. #2. What M/C do you really own, Because I'm not aware of M/C building a 26' Maristar in 1991.

It's not that we didn't like what you said. It's just...well..hard to believe. If you said your wake was better than the new X-star, I would question that too. It's not just a Malibu thing.

My '81 seaswirl was the sickest. We had a dolphin on it and everything. Those new malibu's suck, and so do the mastercrafts and I think the SAN's are kinda weak too. At 14.5 MPH that seaswirl wake was up to your waist on a 10' rope.

I did'nt think the wake would get better than my 04 wakesetter. I rode the new '05 there is is even more pop. No Pete, the tower is not on backwards. They have had these type of towers out for 2 seasons now. The benifit is to have somthing that doesn't look like everything else while still offering the same performance. Also there is nothing blocking your view forward or to the side when you are driving. Getting in and out of the boat is still easy. the new integrated speakers in the tower is also sweet !! There is life after Malibu...its called hell, if you have to ride anything else !

wake rider, That's a pretty bold statement. There are alot of good boats out there, Malibu being one of them.I certainly respect your pride in ownership. Thanks for the info on the tower. I have seen it here and there. Definatly different.

Pete, the illution tower is just their design. But the real reason to put the tower on backwards(like on Mike Schwennes SAN) is to make the rope longer to the sweat spot. My son rides an 80' rope behind our boat. With the backwards tower the ball is farther forward, so he adds 5' to the rope and then he is at the same spot on the wake. But, because the rope is longer, his air is bigger and the hang-time longer. I hope that makes sense.

Just to clear a thing up, MC did build a few 26' Maristars with cuddie cabins up front. I saw one on e-bay two weekes ago and I had never heard of one until then. I own a MC and would still say Bu's are pretty dope! I may like my MC better but would still ride in a Bu anyday

Well, just for reference. I own a malibu response. The wake sucks without a ton of weight. I have never ridden a VLX, but I am sure the wake is better with just standard ballast and wedge. If you rode at a tournament, chances are they were using standard ballast for amateur divisions. I think it is unfair to say 'a wake sucks' when you don't know how it is weighted. It is possible they had no weight or wedge if they let you ride after the competition.

Yep I was at the Fall Fallout all weekend Connor and yeah that 05 Malibu VLX wake was nuts. I have about 2000lbs. of ballast plus the wedge in my Sunsetter and it is not half what that new VLX throws up. The VLX is a pro Level Wake I would compare it to a SAN. I would like to hear what anyone has to say that has actually rode behind a 05 VLX not just sit there and bash it because you have never even seen one.....

M/C did not build a 26' Maristar regardless what you saw on ebay. Maybe they were including the length of the swimstep in the overall length. If you have a link to it, I would be interested in seeing it. They did build 24' Maristars in closed bows and open bows in the early 90s though.

Bill, the I the ones I have seen have said 26" which I beleive is a 24' with a built in swim deck. Here is a link for the 24' with a removable swim deck http://www.gordysboats.com/boatlistdetail.aspx?boatid=116 I think the 26' is still a maristar 240 just with a built in swim deck, but I could be wrong. If you look it is also a DD which most people mistakingly beleive all maristars are vdrives sorry enough highjacking of this thread. I think most people will agree that Malibu's are great just like CC and MC (Message edited by skibum69 on September 30, 2004)

The Maristar 240SC was the largest Mastercraft ever built before the 280. It was a cuddie with queen bed, sink, and The wake was phenominal unweighted because it displaced so much water. Plus it had an optional big block 454 High output (ours did).

Gary, Sell your 04 yet? Are you close to getting an 05? I made the mistake of stopping by the BU dealer recently to “look”. I have a thread on boats and accessories now about the 05 VLX too. Not sure what people are doing for extra ballast yet… have you heard anything about the removable floor above the rear tanks… and whether you can put more weight on top?

Jeff, I havnt heard as to weather you can put extre weight on top, I'm no engineer, but I should think that you could put an equal amount of weight on top without any problem. Scott recently added another 600lbs to an 04/05 (not sure which year) x-star their ballast was also under the floor so he added it on top. As soon as my friend sells his boat, he will buy mine and I order an 05. The new VLX is sweet. Matt keeps trying to get me to come in and test it. Just trying to find the time to get to Bakes and test it, its rough being retired. You guys riding every Sat??

Yep. If it’s not raining hard… we are riding. Got out Saturday with Cliff. Water was decent on Lake Samm and we got a second boat and played around with the spine for a bit too. Fun passing the handle and switching boats during the middle of a set. I also got my boat out on Sunday. Water was marginal on Lake WA, but the sun was out so that always helps. I am going to keep my gear in the car… I hope to catch up with Matt this week and get a set behind the 05 while it’s still on the lake. Depends on my work schedule. Let’s hope the rain holds off. I will keep you posted. If you are up North on the weekends for an install let me know… I am sure you could take a break from “retirement” and get a set in.

Hey Joe… should be raining here soon if you want to get a set and break out the dry suit. JK. Yeah I know all about her lead… I have moved it a few times. Christie had her boat in Vegas and also had it at Shasta this year. I told her it was her fault if I ended up getting a new boat after I got in a few sets behind her BU. My hope is that the 05 puts out the same caliber wake as hers… but offers a bit more room inside.

Malibu builds a very high quality product, they offer enough models to satisfy the needs of most enthusiasts. Nautique also builds great boats, ditto Mastercraft. Moomba, Supra, Tige, also nice boats.
