On pages 68 and 69 of the current (July) issue of wakeboard magazine is a shot of shawn watson sliding a handrail down a set of stairs that end in water. He doesn't use a start pool, instead he attached skateboard trucks to the bottom of his board...

If you look at where his board makes connection with the rail, it looks like his board is actually underneath it.. The white rail takes on a yellowish tint where it goes overtop his board. I cant tell whether this picture is photoshopped or not... I just don't know what is going on. Has anyone else seen this picture???

Long exposure with flash to freeze the rider.

Was it shot at night? I am sure there might be a bit of ghosting going on from the strobes. Who shot it?

I definitely didn't think it was photoshopped, but it does look kinda like he got his board under the rail, which would suck... Really nice shot, and amazing spot... Steven, did you take this? How well could you ride away on the water with a board that has trucks and wheels under it...?!

Hey guys, it looks like a longer exposure with the flash on the second curtain

The rails reflected enough light to burn over whatever his board could have produced. See the ghosting behind Shawn.. then he's solid, that's because the shutter opened and prolly 1/20 or 1/15 second later, the flash fired freezing and exposing him.

I noticed the same thing.

If you look at Shawn's reflection on the small pillar that's in the middle of the frame you can definitely see that the board is above the rail. It's a big more clear in print, but it's totally legit.

Shot is by Aaron Katen.

you can get a see through effect when shooting with 3 flashes and radio slaves. point all 3 at your subject and the shot will look like watsons.

i like aaron katen and watson but that is one goofy shot.

Wait, so the trucks were actually attached to the board? That does seem like it would be hard to ride in the water but I guess he didn't go far. I've started off a skateboard before but I just strapped into the wakeboard then hopped onto the skateboard. Boat pulled to end of dock, ollied off, skateboard stayed behind, seems like that would have made more sense, maybe just to hard to ollie that high.

Semi on-topic: what's "The Spot" in this issue?

Damn, I didn't even notice that and i've been fliping past that shot all week.

Crash, I wondered the same thing, according to the description, it says it's shot at a "performing arts" center in west palm beach. guess it's a "artsy" place, not sure what the story is there.
