i have a 2006 mastercraft X2 with the 350 engine. constant struggles on getting a good clean wake with weighting it, just wondering if any one has input on how to weight it for the best performance and biggest weight. where should i be placing the weight?

The way that we have our X2 (2007 with the 350) is the stock tanks, plus an additional 450 in each rear storage locker. a 450 in the bow to act like a filler cushion. This is a pretty good set up, but we found it gets better with another 150-250 on top of the front sack to make a t. And if that still isn't quite enough another 450 on the floor pushed up against the rear fiberglass. We usually don't ride with a big crew so we don't have all that much gear or people weight. We keep about 100 lbs of balance weight, which helps, but isn't a necessity.

With this our boat has no problems getting on plane, but it is propped pretty aggressively, we can pull around 23 mph @ 3500 RPM using the full set up above.

This set up is good all the way out to 80ft at 22.5 mph.

stock (650 ish)
lockers 2 * 450
bow 450

optional if needed
bow 250
cabin floor 450.

I run the fly high set up on my boat. I think its 450 in each back locker and 700 in the front under the seats. The best wake I ever had was that plus two 500lb bags along the middle of the floor but that took forever to get on a plane so it needs a lot of space(I only have a 310 though and a stock prop). I run at about 24 (my gauge may be off though) and 75 or 80ft.

I'm in a similar boat. I've heard the fly highs fit up to the 06 model, but I have an 08. The 08 model comes with 550lb stock. If I would have waited a year and got the 09 I think they upped it to 900...I don't really want to mess with the existing setup so I might just upgrade to a new model...

alright ill give that a try, i dont usually ride with a big crew usualy only a couple of us. i put a 750 in the bow and a 540 in each back locker but the wake is really in consistant and i ride at like 70-75 at about 24 mph.

I ran the fly high in my 08 X2 and it was a great wake but yes hard to keep consistant. Try 65 -70 rope. I also used a wake gauge because even the smallest movement of weigh will mess up the wake. Look at wakegauge.com it worked great for me.

Unless you really want a new boat...buying a new X2 for the 350 extra lbs is pointless. The fly high bags will fit an 08 perfectly fine and you'd end up wanting them on a new one anyways

Well, I shouldn't say the ballast is the only problem. What I also like about the new X2s is the swivel hydraulic tower. It's a pain in the ass currently having to unscrew each side and lower it down to rest on the back part when storing for the winter.....

I have a 2007 X2 with the MCX engine and stock prop. I run the 690lb horseshoe bow bag on top of the front tank and a 350lb bag on top of each tank in the back corners. Then depending on how many people we have out with us I have a 750lb bag we throw in the floor in the middle of the boat. I try to keep my total weight with ballast and people between 2800lbs and 3000lbs. Most of my friends ride at 65 to 75ft and between 22 and 23 with that ballast. I like 22.4mph and 65ft. The boat plans very well, still handles pretty good and I don't feel like I'm working it to death. The wake is very clean on both sides and does not seem very sensitive to minor weight movements with this set up. With the shorter boat you will get a wider wake compared to longer boats at the same speeds and rope lengths.
