any suggestions for protecting vinyl on a new boat? how about cleaning products - which work best? Thanks!

they make some of the best boat care products

Magic Erarsers for cleaning and 303 Protectant to keep it conditioned and safe from UV exposure.

Protection....I am all about the 303. Everything but the windows and carpet get covered in it & I go through it by the gallon.

Fantastic or soap and water for cleaning.

409 does a great job of dissolving your threads. You'll get to spend money that could have been used for a new wakeboard, on getting your boat re upholstered. Lesson: Listen when someone tells you not to use 409 cause it will dry out your threads. Instead of laughing and telling him he doesn't know what he is talking about!!!!

I heard that 303 was good and bought some--but I think I bought the fabric guard one instead of the vinyl one...are there two? the fabric one said not for use on vinyl. will check it out!

also, have tried magic erasers and they work well! will also look for babe's but not 409!

Tracy-Yes there are two types-the fabric one is for bimini tops and covers and such, probably wont work very well on your vinyl.

Simple Green has a similar action on threads. I use a dilute liquid carpet cleaner for my vinyl cleaner. It is mainly surfactants, so it can't harm threads. Baby shampoo works too, but is much harder to rinse off. You need a lot of water.

303 is the ONLY protectant needed in a boat. It works on the hull, too. The fabric protectant works on the carpet, but it makes it slick for the first few times out.

Magic Erasers can be found in the cleaning aisle at you local walmart, target, or any other store like that.

GT Vinyl's, the supplier to most of the boat manufacturers recommends fantastik for cleaning. I have liked the Meguairs vinyl cleaner & conditioner all in one.

I use Pledge on the hull, 303 for the protectant, and I tried ArmorAll for cleaning, and it worked ok. I'm going to try the Magic Erasers this season.

If you use 303 on the gelcoat, do you still wax it or is that on top of the wax?

You do not need the wax with 303. Wax and 303 does the same thing. 303 looks bad on a black hull, but great on a light colored hull. It kind of looks smeared on the black. You still have to buff it out a bit.
