Check out San Luis Obispo County here in Central CA. We are pretty small but have some fast growing towns. We have 3 lakes within an hour and honestly this place is pretty cool, real laid back (SLO), and 3.5 hours from San Francisco & LA, to our north & soutj respectively. Like anywhere in CA the lakes get crowded but hell yesterday 4th of July I had 2 great rides starting at 7am on Lake Nacimiento. Don't forget about the Delta are too, it's a lot more crowded up there though.

The Delta! Hands down. I think it's 3 hour drive to Tahoe? Fantastic water and world class ski resorts........

Depending on where you go in the East Bay (San Francisco) you are 3 hours to the mountains, 2 hours from the coast and zero minutes to the Delta. Are you looking for a combo of wakeboarding and snowboarding?

I live in Discovery Bay, I'm 2.5 hours to the closest ski resort at a minumum one hour from at least 3 lakes and 2 hours from at least 5 more and only seconds from the Delta.

What exactly are you looking for and are you willing to ride (wakeboard year round when the water and weather gets a little cooler)?

thanks anyone else, also I am a trained chef, is there any resort like towns in the area?

Chris - Resort like towns would be Tahoe ...

Everything close to the Delta is a main town, Brentwood, Pleasanton, Livermore, Discovery Bay, Stockton ...

hey chris,
redding is sweet! i just moved here about a year ago. we're 10-15 min. to shasta, 10 min. to whiskeytown lake, an hour from mt. shasta, we have mild winters and scorching summers. i love it! there's not much of a resort scene that i have seen, which is a plus to me after years of living in resort areas. tahoe is great for that, but the water is freezing and not smooth, but there are definitely some good lakes with a little driving though. good luck!!!

Chris - the Delta on a map won't show in detail. We have over 1,500 miles of water way here, the best think I could tell you to do is look toward Stockton or Mapquest, Stockton or Discovery Bay (zip 94514) then zoom out, you won't see the Delta in depth unless you buy a Delta map or visit here. Another suggestion is to run some Google searches on The California Delta, you might pull up some air shots. Let me know if I can help in any way

use maps.google.com and look up discovery bay california. Switch to the satellite view and have a look around.

funny how every single site says 1000 miles. but whatever, if anyone would know, it's you.

chris, good luck finding a "resort" type riding town. the only other place i can think of is canyon lake in socal. it's a private community w/ a private lake and golf course.

Resorts just provide me with a good living, but a living can be made any where. so the delta is a river system? sorry to sound like such a noob, but thats how it is.

I thought that the delta had 1,183.67342 miles of waterways? Go figure!!! I guess it all depends on whether or not the tide is in or out.

Chris - Yes the delta is a river system. As mentioned here are some of the larger populious towns on or near the Delta: Brentwood, Discovery Bay, Stockton and Sacramento. I don't think you are being a noob, you are just educating yourself ...
