Anyone thinking of taking a look at, or getting the new F150?

I am on my third F250 crew 4x4 (3 in 8 years) and I usually pass them along to my son(s) after 100K+ miles. My second son is in line early next year for my current one and am thinking of "downgrading" to a gas model (2009 F150 Crew 4x4)and see how it works out. I will keep it for 3 years then pass it along to son #3.

I dont have a lot of heavy tow requirements (Mastercraft X1) and will still have my other F250 in the fleet.

On the other hand, they are still discounting the crap out of F250's and I dont think they will discount the new F150's very much. I know gas and diesel will go up again so am torn between what to do.

Three sons takes a bite out of your budget but they drive a lot less than me so it is better to put them in my used diesel.

I helped son #2 get a used Dodge 1500 crew (2wd) and that thing gets horrible mileage (12-13mpg in town).

Thoughts, advice???

I checked them out a little but I'm not in the market right now. I have an 07' F-150 Super Crew with just over 12,000 miles. Most of my driving is in town, I'd ballpark the milage at about 14-15 in town. Taking it on a hunting trip this weekend, should have a better idea of what it gets on the freeway.

i saw a commercial for them the other day, and it says they get 21 highway. thats pretty dang good...

Fords have never been known to get good gas mileage. I do not believe that 21 MPG for a second. I get 13MPG, with mixed highway use, out of my Expedition.

I get 12 in an Excursion 4X4 with a gas V10 mixed use. Not alot of diffrence between that and a half ton v8 excursion

Looks like the new F150 with all the trimmings is pretty dang expensive. They kind of turned it into a mini superduty though, which is nice. I am kind of hooked on my F250 Lariat though and I got a good price on it 2 years ago, so it stays.

If you need good gas mileage, don't buy a pickup. That's how I figure it. Trucks suck fuel and have an aerodynamic profile of a brick. I have seen my MPG's swing from 19+ down to 14- in my F250 depending on the winds and how hard I mash the peddle. This is running empty of course.

i love my 08 with the 4.6. dont get me wrong i do miss my f350 crew cab long bed diesel, but for now this thing is just fine. im around 15-17 with mine witch is the same as my diesel its the cost of maintaining the diesel that sucks!

My 97 f150 with the 4.6 gets 12 all day long mostly hwy and when towing around 8, its a pig

it didn't come with the tow pckg so gearing is the main problem, it would almost be better with a 6 banger I think, but flowmasters don't sound good on a 6 so i went with the v8,

If I could make any recommendation get the bigger V8 because everyone I talk to that has the 5.4 gets 15 or so, and more power, I got the 4.6 in thoughts of better mpg and it was the opposite effect, but its paid for and tows the boat decent enough, looking to upgrade to an older dodge diesel this next summer just so I don't have to replace an expensive tranny on a truck thats maybe worth 4K....
oh and I have seen a manual tranny 6 banger out tow my little v8, they got lots of torque

I have a 05 FX4 and I'll be looking for another one in the next year or so. I think I saw a ad for the F-150 that had a 7000k rebate going.

I'm on my fourth one and have had great luck with them so far.

If you buy one make sure you get it geared right.

The 21 MPG's are on the 4.6 liter with 3 valves and a 6 speed auto tranny and yes it's real. Most trucks will be ordered with the 5.4 which gets an increase in HP and MPG with the new 6 spd. The new truck is sick you won't even believe what it can do and what you can do with it. Towing has been increased to 11,400lbs across the board and standard is the new Trailer sway control. You can literally get the trailer swaying, take your hands of the steering wheel and the truck will correct it for you. The truck is bigger stronger and lighter than ever due to the extensive use of high strength steel. We're stoked about them and I can't wait to get my first one.

Fuel economy is a thing Ford is working on in a very big way across the board with our vehicles. Virtually all our vehicles with changes got more HP and better MPG.

WCW, right now you can easily get in the neighborhood of 12-14,000 off on a new truck whether gas or diesel.

I just bought a 2008 F-150 Lariat Super Crew with every option. (It has a 5.4 with 4 speed and 3.73 limited slip). I bought it at $500 under invoice plus $7,500 in rebates. Sticker was $47K paid 32K plus tax. I have 5000 miles on it and I average 14.5 to 15.5 around town. On the highway with no load at 70 mph it gets 19-20 until I start pulling grades. Towing it got 10-12 pulling a new 2009 Super Air 210 about 550 miles to Lake Havasu and back with lots of grades. I hear the new 6 speed trans is very good for towing and fuel economy. But the deals on the 2008's are great.

i have an '04 and get horrible gas mileage. i'm sure it has a lot to do with the 22's. either way, i love my f150. if not an f250, i'll be getting another f150 in the future.

I have an 07 supercrew fx2 with the 4.6L. It has 20" wheels and combine that with my 21' Tige and she is hurting. I would go with the 5.4L IMO.

I have an 07 King Ranch Supercrew 4x4 with the 5.4L and I love it. The 09's are looking pretty good.

Here's to hoping they pop a nice 6 cylinder turbodiesel in those F150's some time soon eh??

Though I have to say, everyone I know with a 5.4 has ZERO problems with that engine and it seems to be great at pulling a boat save for maybe the steep hills. With the tow haul mode, that thing should be great at load control downhill as well.

Thanks for all the replies. Flux, I cannot live without a pickup so going any other route is out of the question.

I guess my bet will be based on the crystal ball of future fuel costs. My ball tells me it will be going back up and diesel will continue to cost more than premium unleaded. When I purchased my first F250 in 1999, diesel was cheaper than regular unleaded.

I doubt that Ford will be offering any serious discounts on the new F150 for awhile so will probably take a look at what is being offered (discount wise) in early 2009. If the diesel F250's are still being heavily discounted and the new 150's are close to MSRP then I guess I will opt for another diesel.

On the other hand, the Wall Street Journal had an article yesterday stating that they are cutting back production on large trucks and that will lead to smaller discounts (supply/demand equation) than what we are currently seeing.

My choices will be between the 2009 F150 super crew (4x4, 5.4, short bed, lariat or King Ranch) and the F250 super crew (diesel, 4x4, King Ranch, short bed - my current truck). The current pricing for the aforementioned F250 (after rebates, customer loyalty, etc.) is very low $40's (not bad).

Me neither Bob, I have a 96 Bronco and an 06 F250 Lariat Diesel. My next vehicle will probably be an older VW TDI for getting around town. I only put about 8k a year on the F250, it's a long term investment.

I honestly think they manipulated Diesel prices to soak the commercial sector for a while. I think Diesel is back to being affordable and it will stay that way. This is just my opinion though, but I think they need to keep diesel affordable for transportation and farming to keep inflation in check or goods and services will skyrocket. Just my opinion though, but high diesel prices really hurt the economy.
