I'm picking up my new SLR tomorrow! I decided to go with a Nikon D80. What are the opinions on this camera? Good or bad

thanks

I've got a friend who uses this camera and she loves it. I've actually used it a few times and liked it. I have a Canon, but I must say that I put my hands around the new Nikon D700 during training today at work, and snapped a few pics...I was speechless. that baby was amazing!!!

Yep..the D700 is the very, very nice. But also pretty expensive to get into. I only had to sell rifle, a welder and my current D200 setup to get the body and a my 17-55 and 10.5 lenses to get a new 24-70 lens.

The D80 is a great camera and probably one of the better buys out there....enjoy and post some pics

Later

D80 is a nice camera. Now get the 70-200mm f2.8

I'm very happy with the D300 ( D200 is my back up). I have reservations with the D700 being that the fx is 95% not 100% compared to the D3.
It is a cross between a D3 & D300.

Ummm....the viewfinder of the D700 is 95%...the sensor is the same. In other words, the final picture is a wee bit bigger than what you see in the viewfinder.
