As a corvette owner i can't decide whether i love this boat, or hate it. Throw a tower on it and i probably love it.

That is the LS7 Z06 engine that puts out 505bhp as a 7.0 litre V8. The steering wheel and instrument cluster are obviously derived from the Vette as well.

The Z06 is an incredible machine to drive, i wonder if this boat follows suit.

Edited to add - I hate the transom look, those pics weren't up on first post.

The windows on the sides of the chairs are power windows. You can roll them down. There are some pictures with them up and half way down.

Useless? No way...YA THINK?

This is more of a "show boat" than something you'd buy hoping to fit your family and friends in. Kinda like...um...you know...those totally custom cars at car shows. They're totally badass to go look at, but not the best vehicle to take to go get groceries. I'm sure some people somewhere will appreciate the boat and wait in line to take delivery of one, but no, it totally isn't for everyone.

Kinda cool to see a boat mfg take the time out of their busy production schedule to custom make every one of the pieces of that boat.

Can't wait to see more pics from the Malibu dealer meeting (where Ryan is right now I assume).

A lot of people put a lot of effort into this boat. Be respectable as these pictures do no justice for the boat.
Old     (big_brandon)      Join Date: Dec 2005       11-15-2007, 2:57 PM Reply
I am sure the designer says it drives good, what do you expect him to say, "It drives terrible"?

By the way, nice CHEVRON on the side of the boat, HMMMMMMM???, Wonder where we have seen one of those before? Search Tige RZ2 or RZ4........

boy there is some real use for roll down windows in a boat, gotta keep that water out. Can you get this boat in a open bow? be a tiny bit more practical than a closed one
Old     (misfits1981)      Join Date: Aug 2007       11-15-2007, 3:12 PM Reply
So, does it have air conditioning? Looks like an air vent to the left of the steering wheel.
Old     (cavlxenvy)      Join Date: Aug 2007       11-15-2007, 3:12 PM Reply
The designer of the boat is legit. The hull is much like the one on the Sunscape boats. If he says it drives great, I will believe him. He doesn't produce second rate stuff.

Not sure about an open bow boat. I was shocked when I saw a closed bow.

I don't see any reason malibu would want to copy tige in any way.

That thing would haul a$$ but that's it. Way impracticle, and the rear looks dumb. What's the price like $100K, must be a special order boat. This one must be for the guy with way to much money.

It looks awesome! I would buy one if I was in the market for something like that. Its just like a corvette on the road though, not very practicle, but sure fun to drive and get gawked @

To each their own I guess.

the back is functional. It's supposed to look like a vette and the "lights" are actually the vents for the engine compartment.

This boat is what it is... a collectors item. If I had scrilla cash, I would buy one.
Old     (big_brandon)      Join Date: Dec 2005       11-15-2007, 3:29 PM Reply
nu bu bu: take a look at the side of the boat. There is a Chevron. If you don't know what that is, take a look at the side of a RZ2 and you will know what a Chevron is. Thank you.
Old     (meathead65)      Join Date: Sep 2006       11-15-2007, 3:30 PM Reply
The "chevron" on the side of the boat is a design cue taken from the Vette....I doubt malibu feels the need to copy Tige on anything.

As a vette owner, I like it alot. I wouldn't buy one unless I had a whole lot of excess cash to toss...but the look/design is pretty impressive, IMO.

Tige took chevron design cue from the corvette. Really who cares where it came from. Just like a bunch of little kids "stop copying me".

What is the aluminum canister under the port side rear hatch? Fuel pump/cell, or maybe fire supression system?
Old     (cavlxenvy)      Join Date: Aug 2007       11-15-2007, 3:59 PM Reply
Someone said it is some sort of pump that cools the oil. I will look into it further.
Old     (99_slaunch)      Join Date: Oct 2005       11-15-2007, 4:00 PM Reply
Looks like it has an oil dip stick in the canister. Could be a oil cooler or remote filter of some sort.
Old     (meathead65)      Join Date: Sep 2006       11-15-2007, 4:02 PM Reply
Could this beast actually be running a dry sump oil system??
Old     (polarbill)      Join Date: Jun 2003       11-15-2007, 4:06 PM Reply
wow, if I wanted a go fast ski boat that doesn't fit more than 4 people and is completely useless I would go buy a 1970's tahiti or sanger jetboat and would spend $90k less. Those tail lights look horrible. I am hoping that Malibu isn't expecting to break even on this boat. After paying Chevrolet and not selling more than a couple I would imagine they would lose quite a bit of money. If I was a dealer there would be zero chance I would buy one of these from Malibu.

The trailer looks really good though.

Could be but those lines look a little small to me for a dry sump.
Old     (cavlxenvy)      Join Date: Aug 2007       11-15-2007, 4:12 PM Reply
dry sump is correct.
Old     (meathead65)      Join Date: Sep 2006       11-15-2007, 4:15 PM Reply
I don't know...I don't think we are seeing the bottom of the canister..that other line looks like it is just passing behind the can, maybe a fuel tank vent or something...if that canister goes all the way to the floor of the compartment, it could very well be holding 7 or 8 quarts of synthetic.

I believe the Z06 is a dry sump car...gotta look it up.

Even looks to be the same pump canister that is in the car....

I thought it was going to be a real world wakeboard boat with corvette cues....but they took the word corvette literally
Old     (ridininmd)      Join Date: Jun 2006       11-15-2007, 4:28 PM Reply
Kinda cool looking, defiantly different. You guys gotta realize this boat isn't targeted at wakeboarders or even really skiers. This is for the go fast boat guy that's gonna get rid of his Baja to get a boat that matches his car.
Old     (xsmini)      Join Date: Dec 2005       11-15-2007, 4:41 PM Reply
Malibu did not pay royalties on this. GM came to Malibu to build it.

GM wanted the boat, malibu agreed

i wonder what the cost of that thing is going to be $$$
Old     (jon_a)      Join Date: Feb 2003       11-15-2007, 4:47 PM Reply
Love the looks of the boat and wow, what an engine.

BUT

New tewling + special parts + new engine = $2000 more each Malibu owner will have to pay for a new boat this year. Not cool for the people who don't care about this boat.
Old     (thor)      Join Date: Oct 2001       11-15-2007, 4:50 PM Reply
Does it have options to include a tower, power wedge and internal ballast? I think the boat looks good, but I wouldn't buy it unless it could be converted to a more wake specific boat at the factory.
Old     (johnsvt)      Join Date: Dec 2006       11-15-2007, 4:51 PM Reply
Not my cup of tea, but definately an interesting idea. I am now sure where this boat really fits. I would guess that thing better go 65-70 if you are going to put the Z06 motor in it.

Z06 is dry sump and holds 8 quarts total.
Old     (jtnz)      Join Date: Sep 2007       11-15-2007, 5:16 PM Reply
Not much freeboard for weighing her down... looks pretty awesome though and that motor is mean.
Old     (wakereviews)      Join Date: Sep 2006       11-15-2007, 5:18 PM Reply
this is like when Ford built the GT-40, i am pretty sure that project was never intended to create profits through sales of the car, but to help brand image/awareness. Super low production numbers not intended for the masses at all (like the rest of the Malibu lineup).

Also, was there someone from Malibu who said this was going to be a wake specific boat? I never heard/read that. it's a corvette boat, i think the name states exactly what it was supposed to be and what it came out to be.

I love it and hope we see more of these types of projects from the manufacturers.

Yep....I also don't agree with the poster that said this boat will force every other Malibu built up by 2K to cover it....I'm sure some serious Chevy Marketing money has gone Malibu's way on this thing.
Old     (cfd313)      Join Date: Sep 2006       11-15-2007, 5:25 PM Reply
I;m pretty sure it's just a boat that somebody with money can use as a tax write off and say that it's sitting in the garage...people crack me up asking for wake stuff on it...
Old     (norcalmalibu)      Join Date: Jun 2004       11-15-2007, 5:47 PM Reply
I think it look awesome, I think the tail lights could look better but they had to put vent lines someplace. This is not a wakeboarding boat, its purely a cruzin boat and having 500hp. It might barefoot well who knows. I think its cool, to each there own.
Old     (westsidarider)      Join Date: Feb 2003       11-15-2007, 7:53 PM Reply
shoot it could very well be a wakeboard boat if you were able to install the wedge and the ballast. then hide a bunch of lead under the compartment in the front and back hatches. if i had the money and they make it in the 23 foot i would buy it in a heart beat.

Looks like an oak'd out v-drive Response. Didn't they do a low prduction of this a while back? One of the reasons you should study history...so you don't repeat past mistakes. Cool if they are only making a few for "marketing" dumb if they are actually making a production run of these.
Old     (nwsjake10)      Join Date: Feb 2007       11-15-2007, 9:08 PM Reply
i think the boat is sweet..and the idea is great to get other "wealthy" people involved in the boat/wake lifestyle, and i think its stupid to knock a company like malibu for trying something new..i mean look at MC, they pride there company off of "innovation" and new ideas..well..this is pretty innovative, and definitley a new idea..for those that are knocking the boat..remember..like others stated..its a corvette boat..not a corvette wakeboard boat..let it be what it is and enjoy that others are attracted to our sport..but i will say that windshield is hideous..
Old     (skurfed)      Join Date: Jun 2007       11-15-2007, 9:54 PM Reply
nwsjake10 - Malibu has done Corvette boats in the past.
I was expecting a variation of the new Illusion tower to show up on this boat. When you consider all of the special purpose, expensive go-fast boats out there, so what if it's going to be better at looking cool and going fast than a VLX. Although looking cool is in the eye of the beholder. I would bet this boat looks better in person than the photos do it justice. Not that it looks bad to me. Should be interesting taking for a drive. Anyone know how many will go to Chevy dealers for display?
Old     (bill_airjunky)      Join Date: Apr 2002       11-15-2007, 10:02 PM Reply
Nice setup. Not really my thing, but for the guy who has too much cash, likes to go fast, hang out & attract the bikinis...........hey, that sounds like half the LSV owners I know!! ;)

I'd love to have that hard cover hood on my vRide! I'd probably run the boat with the hood on it 1/2 the year & only take it off when it's sunny & hot out.

Its pretty cool. Yet, I doubt its the best use of company resources. If they are like any other company in a competitive space, everything you do means there is something else you are not doing. Thus, I question such an effort on a strange but cool boat. Its cool but it also probably means other things are not improving as a result.

I'm a little suprised that the "tailight" vents aren't a little truer to the vette. The look like speaker covers. I'm also suprised that it's a sportV. The first 'bu vette was a true ski boat, and made sense, this is kinda....strange.

nobody noticed the jackstands underneath in the photos?

I guess it does take after a Chevy as the name implies.

j/k I don't really have any brand loyalty. Cool concept boat and it would definitely turn some heads at the party cove.
