Do you care about headroom at all, ducking under the speakerbox all the time?

no headroom is not a big deal. It is going on centurion falcon v with the new double up tower so clearance is not a big issue.
this one is not mine this is a borowed pic same tower

I'd get the wetbox with the polk db691 6x9. They will sound better than the 6x9's you have listed. Run at least 400 watts to them and you'd be rocking. You should be able to get that box unloaded. Just PM them and ask. If I had to pick I'd go with the Kickers though. Correction I see they have it there unloaded as well.

would the polk momo 6x9 mm690 be better or very close to the db691. and if I went with the db's do I need an external crossover.

You won't see any noticeable difference according to Polk. You don't need an external cross over for the db series. The db's are slightly more effecient, and the momo's have slightly more midbass. You won't notice the extra midbass at the rider though, might be nice for chillin around the boat.

I have 4 Polk MMC 650's on my tower in some cans that I got on Ebay. I'm running them off of an Alpine PDX 4.150 and they are plenty loud enough to hear at 80' and the sound is incredible in the boat. You can find the 650's on Ebay for 80 bucks and the cans are doubles with clamps included for about 120/pair (although I did have to have some adapter rings made since the 650's were a little too small). So for the whole setup not including the amp you're looking at only $400. I have them with 4 Polk DB690's in the boat and they sound awesome too. You really can't go wrong with any of the Polks...but Nu Bu is right - you definitely won't notice the mids at the rider. But you will in the boat. Good luck and have fun.

It would be worth your time to look at the JL Audio VR 690cxi and the Boston Acoustic SL95. Both of these are top end 6x9's and you can find a pair of them on ebay for about $160 and you dont need external crossovers.

In my retail days I used to sell WetBos's with 4 SL95's all the time. The SL95's use a Neo Magnet that is small and clears the inside of the box (Something you need to be careful of). They handle a ton of power and deliver actual bass from the tower when powered and set up properly.
They are a two way speaker that uses there Kortec tweeter (Same one used in some of there $3/4000.00 home speakers. They used two tweeters because the woofer had so much bass output that they needed two. They Rock! The biggest plus is that they fit. The two outer speaker holes can have depth issues if your not careful.

Good Luck
Scott
