My cousin worked for Fairbanks-Morse. He was a mechanic for the backup engines on nuclear subs. I have a valve at home that is the same size as an axle from a Chevy pickup. They would open a door and walk into the crankcase to do repairs. Very cool stuff.............

These are meant to power container or tanker ships. Been inside several of them. Very impressive to watch run. Actually quieter than what you would expect, but still loud.

I have never seen one throw a rod. They are very well built and typically maintained to the extreme - the ship is built around the power plant. Talk about ballast.
