looking at replcing my mushroom anchor. Looked at both box and digger at bass pro shop, not sure how you get the box to release once set ? which is more recommended, we start river riding this summer but also hit the lakes up.

Box anchor is my vote... To release, pull yourself over the top of the anchor and lift, nothing else to it!

There was a box anchor listed in the classified section the other day

I got lucky and found my small box anchor for $70 on Craigslist. I think the small usually goes for $150 or so. There was a website that had the baby box for $95. All I know is that I had a danforth and blew all over the lake and spent more time resetting the anchor and jockeying around the cove than i did relaxing and it drove my GF nuts! Now with the box, drop it in and your done. I watched a guy drop a Danforth in the other day and do the same thing I did time and time again. I saw how silly I must have looked. The Box anchor is worth every penny!

Small box on my D 215. I store it in the bag with the nylon anchor line wrapped around it in the bow seat storage.

If they would only drop the price I think they would sell more.

I think the price is fair, considering how well they work. After you waist your money on a few diffeerent types of anchors that don't work that well you won't mind paying a little more for the BOX.

I too have a V215 and recommend the small, I do as Art does and store it under the front bow cushion.

Price wise, no they're not cheap but nothing else works as well as easily as do these nor can you hide anything else away as well.

Old     (bawshogg)      Join Date: Dec 2005       05-02-2010, 8:04 AM Reply
I just use a rope right to the anchor.

I decided to get a box anchor and did the usual online best price search. It seems most retailers have no or limited supplies of the box anchor, I want stainless. Some are listed as discontinued. This includes retailers with links listed on the manufacturers site. Any idea what's going on?

tim, i'd just call slideanchor directly and buy it from them...same price as everywhere else and they'll ship it out pretty fast. you can also pick your bag color if you do it that way.
Old     (srock)      Join Date: Mar 2002       05-03-2010, 12:26 PM Reply
I saw a $50 dollar price difference on the stainless.
Old     (ghostrider_2)      Join Date: Aug 2004       05-03-2010, 3:27 PM Reply
only $50 more for the stainless? Slide anchoe is asking $349 for the small box stainless.

hey sorry, missed the stainless part...
Old     (srock)      Join Date: Mar 2002       05-04-2010, 8:51 AM Reply
$50 difference between buying direct from Slide Anchor or from retailers.

Have any of you guys painted the Box anchor to help protect it from rusting up?
Old     (bawshogg)      Join Date: Dec 2005       05-05-2010, 9:52 AM Reply
It don't rust, at least in most of our usageges. It's galvanized or stainless.

thanks.

Stainless for salt if you want it to last. Even a little rust will make a nice stain on whatever it touches.
Old     (ghostrider_2)      Join Date: Aug 2004       05-05-2010, 1:46 PM Reply
no salt, just lake and river water. the rust touching things is my concern.
Old     (srock)      Join Date: Mar 2002       05-05-2010, 2:18 PM Reply
I run in both salt and fresh. I buy stainless because even nicks on freshwater equipment will rust and stain. I even have a stainless chain on my anchor. The thing I hate are bottle tops, boy do they rust and stain quickly.

maybe I will rhino lined, can't afford the $350 for stainless.
Old     (bawshogg)      Join Date: Dec 2005       05-05-2010, 3:13 PM Reply
They come with a storage bag to put them in when not in use. If you are not using it in salt water I personally would not waist the extra cash. put it in the bag when you are done using it.
Old     (dohboy)      Join Date: Aug 2007       05-05-2010, 5:35 PM Reply
The anchor easily fits in the bag so rust wont be an issue,
Old     (rallyart)      Join Date: Nov 2006       05-06-2010, 6:38 AM Reply
I would not put a Urethane spray on it Kenny. It will get a hole in it somewhere from a rock and rust underneath the liner. You can just get a galvanizing spray can and touch up the galvanized one if you have too. The bag does help stop most stains.

I was wondering what what type of knot everyone uses when attaching the rope to the anchor. Thanks
