Big Bear Lake, Ca Info Needed????

Taking a trip there with the family mid June. Anyone know where I can find some good spots to ride a few sets/day in the afternoon hrs. Trying to get as much info as possible so I don't have to comb the lake. Also good places to eat. We are staying on the south side of the lake. Thanks

I was there in August two years ago. There was no good spot to ride in the afternoon, unless you're talking about riding a tube. Best riding was to be out on the water ready to go when the speed limit is lifted and you'll get a couple hours of glass. Hopefully June will be better for you in the afternoon.

We ate all meals at our rental cabin so i have no experience with any of the restaurants.

The lake is not the biggest, so you shouldn't have to comb the lake for glass as if one spot is blown the rest will be too. I agree with dtw glass in the morning, tube water in the afternoon. Clean water thou.

only time I go to Big Bear is with my snowboard in the winter...water is cold.

It will take you about 10 minutes to "comb" the lake.

I agree with everyone else - morning is your best chance for good water. The water is pretty cold too but I have bare-backed it in the summer. I don't think it ever gets any warmer than low seventies but in June you are probably looking at low to mid sixties, burrr....

Just out of curiosity, are you taking your boat or do you know someone there that's got one? The North Shore Landing rents (at least they used to) time on their boats and offer lessons if you are interested. If you are taking your own boat make sure you have a good tow vehicle - the road get pretty steep in places.

I worked at Big Bear Sports Ranch coaching one summer. We were on the lake as early as possible (sunrise) or sometimes before, to get calm water for the kids. Afternoons there are a write-off as everyone else has mentioned, it gets crazy and borderline unsafe. Sometimes if you really hug the no-wake lines you can find something. There was a shop in town who offered lessons and stuff, can't remember the name of it now, the dude was super chill tho.

Mozart's in the village is a good place to eat. If you're entering from the West/front side, it's one of the 1st places on the right.

Another good place is on Pine Knot I think - it's Peppercorn. Pretty decent Italian.

Lake should be blown out pretty much every day. It seems like it's always choppy. Early mornings like everyone else said is your best bet.
