Toward the end of last season, I noticed a sticky spot starting to form on my helmet. Its normally a flat matte black finish, but the sticky spot was really shiny. I thought it was pop or something spilled on it but it wouldnt wash off. Now, over half the helmet is this shiny stickiness and it doesnt wash off.

Has this happened to anyone else, any ideas what it is? I store the boat indoors and trailer to the lake, so it couldn't be from sitting out in the sun. It still works fine, just really annoying to touch and get your hand sticky, plus it attracts dirt.

You sure its not dried brain tissue?

We all leak a little gray matter now and again.

Had my Protec two years, no sticky spots. Send it in, maybe you will get some CS love.

I have seen two other matte black Pro-Tec's do this. Don't know why or how to fix/stop it. I have only seen it happen on the matte black ones.

this happend on one of ours also, no solution yet.

It's almost like the matte finish is failing and the finish under it is gloss.

I have one just like that and it has gotten sticky all over. I just thought it had gotten too hot in the outside storage building.

I second the Shred Ready. Nice comfortable helmets.

The paint melts or something. It happens to a lot of products with that finish. It happened to my flat black pro-tec, and I even had a rifle scope that the same thing happened to after two years in storage, no use whatsoever. Not a pro-tec specific thing, it's the product they use to give it the matte finish.

Yea I was hoping there was something I could put on it to fix the stickiness. Works fine, just picks up all dirt wherever it is and makes your hand sticky when you touch it.

Funny that, I have a matte green pro-tec for about 3-4 years now and it hasn't done this. (Best helmet!)

Maybe just paint over it?
