I had some friends force me to go to Lake Mojave this past weekend to get away for a little while. It was fun to get out on a big lake and we had good water on Friday but it was blown out Sat. and Sun. Kind of went old school, lots of jet skiing, cliff jumping, hanging and i hate to say it...tubing. But beware if you are headed out there this Memorial Weekend as they had a massive check point as we were coming in on Sat. They were checking anything and everything as well as numerous DUI's. My buddy got hassled heavily and did no less than 4 breathalizers that all read .02 needless to say the were pissed they couldn't take him to jail. They did give him a 75.00 ticket for not having a throwable floatation device. I was nice enough to take the standup ski in and just threw on my Quicksilver comp vest and you guessed it i left with a 60.00 life jacket ticket. They also tried to get me for not having a USCG approved fire extinguisher on the ski, though it still has the original one delivered straight from Kawasaki. Just giving a heads up

I have heard this about Mojave before, sucks but maybe they are trying to curb the idiots before they get started for the summer.
I do hate getting hassled on chickenest tickets tho

sounds like they need a good doughnut shop there, something to keep the cops busy.

What qualifies as a "throwable floatation device"? Can you post a link?

I've never heard of such a thing.

We were in Havasu 2 weekends ago, and the police were just sitting around. I didn't see anyone get pulled over, but I saw plenty of people who should have. They must have sent the agro officers up north.

Don't be surprised to see checkpoints everywhere over the holiday weekend. It sounds like they are doing their job too, both catching drunks and making people think twice. I don't want to share the road or the water with drunks - nobody does.

Sorry your buddy got hassled and got a BS ticket. Maybe this is a good reminder to everyone to check your gear, make sure you know what you are required to have and that you have it, and that (in the case of stuff like fire extinguishers) is in working order. A friend of mine got stopped at the ramp this year and had to show all his stuff too. His fire ext was low and he was missing a throwable float, but got off with a written warning.

Y'all be safe this weekend!

In todays economic down turn, I would expect more "revenue" checkpoints too.
