I'm looking for a nice tower setup that the rider will be able to hear clearly, yet still be under 1k after buying the speakers, cans, amps, and all the wires. Any opinions on the matter?

Wet Sounds all the way. Clarity is great at well over 100ft back. Alot also has to do with the right amp. I do a ton of tower speaker installs at my shop. The only set out there that comes close to keeping up is NVS but they still fall short.

Get this for $1000 plus shipping:

He can't get Wetsounds or NVS and amps, etc. for under $1k. Wiring alone is $200 or more already and you can't buy them used.

Well, I did see that. It is going to end up being a week from monday until I have the money. And I don't see that lasting until then. If it does I am definitely going to see about it.

What can I do if I have an 06 X-Star with four tour speakers and I want to upgrade. I really want to keep the cans I have and just get the best speaker to replace the ones I already have.

Brandon,
Sorry but your are near dreaming. Actually it's a mixed bag. Hearing at the rider distance is my specialty and to do it effectivly for less then 1G is pushing the envelope.
I tell what I'd do for you.....Single NVS Tyrant and a Zapco amp for $1100.
For $1100 nothing on the market can beat that for volume and clarity to the rider....nothing!

Well, I found a used Pro 485 for $600 shipped.
Now I just need a nice amp ro run it, I've got plenty of wire, I should be sitting under my $1000 mark and still have great sound.

$600 is a good price for a used 485, where did you find it? What color and what is the condition?

I have a 3 some I am thinking of selling.

Bought them from Mike Wilson. He's a really nice guy, and I would say the speakers are a 8.5 to 9 out of 10 in condition.
They are the black ones and they have light scratches.
They work perfectly though, and that was my main concern.

Why are you thinking of selling your 3-some?

Brandon, I've got an older but nice Kenwood Excelon amp I'll sell you for $75 plus shipping that would power a single 485 well. It works perfectly. Model is KAC-X301. Puts out 300 watts at 4 ohms bridged @12 volts. Shipped, $95 would cover it. Send me a PM if you want it.

I am going to try the new WS Double up combo this year as we plan to surf more then board.

I might keep it, as I really like the 3 some but like anything, if I get a fair price, then its for sale.

time will tell.

Are the mb8's not the same speakers that are in the pro485's?

The MB8's do not have a horn, I am not sure if the 485 has the same component as the MB8 plus the horn. or not.

WS says the MB8's ( MB stands for Mid Base) offers a bit more full sound then Pro 80's

I am also after the extra head room the system offers.

I will let you know when I mount up the Double Up and try them.

Buy some cans and build your them yourself. I bought a pair of duel cans from bulletlines and four polk audio 6.5s. the holes in the cans are too large for the speakers, so i bought some sheet steel from Lowes and made a bracket. painted the bracket to keep from rusting, and i made it to fit behind the speaker grill so you can't see it very easily. They sound good good enough for me and were under half of your budget.
