I'm in the market personaly for a new boat, but I'm still open, and looking. I think it would be helpful to everyone if WW members would start posting boat show prices on a thread every season; this would give everyone in the market for a new boat the upper hand in negotiating pricing either now or later in the season.

If you went to a boat show and received pricing, please post the brand, model, and boat show price for 08's or 07's you were quoted on(I know that this can get messy with options, but dealers often have a base model that they offer the special pricing on).

Thanks,

Ken

100K for a boat is ridiculous, and its not much longer before not many will pay the price. Refinancing of homes is pretty much over in this country for the time being so who has that kind of $$ ?
Hopefully by 2009 boat manufacturers will come back to reality-

^^^^ So is paying $400k for a 2300 sq ft house in CA. As long as there are people with good credit, they will be bought.
Old     (njskier)      Join Date: Jul 2005       01-07-2008, 2:42 PM Reply
^^^^That's reasonable compared to NJ, try adding another $300K or so.

There are plenty of wealthy people who remain wealthy when the economy gets tighter, $100K boat is nothing to them (example 50' Meridian pilothouse for $1 mil.)

Back to what was asked, saw a CC 211 for $49,995 pretty nicely equipped. Boat show deals are best when the factory reps are in attendance, as was the case this past weekend in the MC booth at the NYC boat show. Most dealers will honor boat show pricing after the show is over within a reasonable time frame, unless the sell out of a certain model. Make sure the dealer you buy from has a good reputation and good service dept.

400K? Try double that...or triple.

where are you finding a house in CA fro 400 k if its in my area thats a steel
Old     (guido)      Join Date: Jul 2002       01-07-2008, 3:03 PM Reply
My brother just paid $420k for a 1 bedroom condo with a 1 car garage here in cali. I thought he got a good deal. LOL!!!

BTW.... My prediction is that CC and Master Craft will be affected the least by the economy. Most of the people buying those boats are established and wont be that affected by a slowing economy. The Moomba, Centurion, Sanger, etc.... markets will be hit first and the hardest.

"$357,000.00 for the Porsche boat at the P-town show..."

That boat was also on sale/display at the wood boat show this summer at Tahoe, they were asking $400K for it there.

I was making a point...some think it's crazy to pay 100k for a boat, some think it's crazy to pay CA prices for real estate. I have no idea exactly what a 2300 sq foot house cost in parts of CA. In Houston you can find nice 2300 sq ft hosue for under 200k.

you forget that we have regulation free lakes (no spotter laws, no lifejacket laws, no speed laws, no coast gaurd, you dont have to pay to ride on the lakes), clean air and basically no traffic jams. Dont get me wrong I love Cali, I go there several times a year to ride and lived there for a few years. Every thing is just inflated there from Gas to homes.

If you can drink the tap water and breath the air say shhhh.............

I will say.. it's a lot cheaper living up here as opposed to southern California. Much less traffic, cleaner air and everything is green and lush. It would take something pretty huge for me to ever want to move back.

i didnt forget...i lived in the midwest for 26 years...and there isn't a single thing ab the midwest that could ever make me WILLINGLY move back there...but thats just me

i sure dont miss bundling up to go shovel snow...but i do miss the snow days...hahhaa

I was referring to the home prices, insurance costs and utility bills. I'm only using my personal experience but from what we've seen, our car insurance dropped significantly, our energy costs are half what they were and condos just like ours are going for double the price in my southern california hometown.

i was playin' but sure, i can argue that. of course, it's not a cut and dry argument. you can't take a house in sac and compare it to a house in l.a. there are so many things to factor in when comparing house prices, like type of home, size, upgrades, extras, (good) schools in the area (i know you didn't consider this at all when you bought your house..."i don't care about that"), type of neighborhood (ghetto or not), and many other things.

i'm willing to bet that though sacramento will come out lower, they won't be that much lower than los angeles, not like it used to be.

ALOT higher in the peninsula. No comparison. A 2 bdrm apt in foster city goes for 5-600 easy.
Old     (dakid)      Join Date: Feb 2001       01-08-2008, 3:09 PM Reply
yeah. there are also many areas in socal that are a lot higher than sacramento, like san diego.

I love San Diego.. it's one of the few spots in so cal that I'd like to live. However, I'd spend more to rent a tiny one bedroom apartment than we spend on our mortgage payment up here.

Difference here folks need a place to live. No one NEEDS a boat. Watch the industry and mark my words. As the "sub-prime" mortgages and easy refi's dissappear, so will buyers of expensive toys like boats and RV's. I believe in R & D which many boat builders spend lots of $$ on, but I also don't believe it equals up to a 100K boat. Greedy manufacturers? Probably not. This is the 'ol USA where free enterprise is what sets our country apart. Hopefully, in the near future, boat builders will recognize and lower the prices back down to where they're affordable. The average person cannot afford a 100K boat, so where does the growth of wakeboarding come from? And once you do buy the boat, with the payments can you afford a new board, bindings, rope and vest? How often?
Everyone loses-
Out of curiosity though, who has bought a new boat within the last year here????? Can you really afford it or did you refi or someting similar to buy?

I bought a few, but i paid outright and flipped them, all for a profit except the last one which made me about even for the year :-( oh well.

I just bought my boat in cash. Hard budgeting for a few months and I bought a leftover Centurion Avalanche. Would have loved a MC, but when it's your cash, it's harder to spend. And as DUDE above pointed out, I'm shelling out about 2 grand for all the stuff to go in the boat. Not top of the line gear, but middle of the road.
What's crazy is the price increase every year on boats. The other thread of a guy who thinks a good deal is on a loaded Moomba XLV for 57k. Maybe if it came with a hooker in the playpen bow...
Soon, only perfect credit will get boat financing at all.

To stay true to the thread. Someone posted at the ATL boat show,
Centurion Falcon which is less than 21' but a 102" beam for 39k (not sure if V or DD)
Moomba Mobius LS DD loaded at the high price of 41k.
Malibu VLX for 44k and change

Don't move to Toronto... 600sq foot condo is $300k lets not forget the $300/mth maintenance fee too! One parking spot!

Home 3800sq feet in Unionville. suburb of Toronto, it's a nice area. $950k give or take..

VLX didn't say stripper or not, nor if it was an 07 leftover, heck maybe even demo. Yeh, if a Malibu and Moomba are very close in price, something is a miss. Just relaying what someone else posted on a different site. Pioce

"ALOT higher in the peninsula. No comparison. A 2 bdrm apt in foster city goes for 5-600 easy."

hhhmmm??? My less then 800 sf 1 bed apartment in Dublin is under market at $1385. If you can find any apartment in the bay for that price that isn't the center of the ghetto then you should be happy as all hell. something tells me those numbers are off.

Boat prices are way inflated at this point, but why should't they be. Seeing 3 or 4 X80's on any lake is crazy, but when it's no longer surprising then something is amiss. Nothing quite like seeing a spankin new X45 filled with "thugs" and not one wake item on the boat... times that by 10 and you have the "bridge" at Berryessa.
