Best "beginner/intermediate" board

I am looking for a good intermediate/beginner board, I have an '08 Supra 22SSV that throws an average wake (400 lb cemnter bag, 750 lb rear bag), nothing massive. I am currently using a Hyperlite Broadcast that is 5'4" and it is difficult at times to stay in the wake. I am 6'1", 200 lbs. The broadcast just seems thin, not the same thickness as a regular surfboard.

Is there a board out there that wll increase buoyancy and make it easier to stay in the wake? Or does board style, weight and thickness not make a difference?

I rode a friend of mine's Walker project Bazooka. That thing will surf any size wake. I think having a quality board helps. Don't get me wrong...a good wave always helps but once I rode a Walker board, I am convinced that its all about the board.

It looks like you might be in the Bay Area. A trip to California Marine Sports would be worth your time. They have a bunch of options and demo boards.

As far as the type of board. I have a 57" Calibrated I bought from them that I ride. I am about 250 and it is less than an inch thick. CMS have a bunch of quality boards from a bunch of manufactures. They have a board from Soulcraft that was great to ride. They know their surf stuff.

Roger is right that thickness doesnt matter as much as construction and shape. The Inland Surfer Squirt is still price point but is still a step up from the Braodcast. And like Roger said we have some of the Soulcraft boards that work great for really good prices right now on California Marine Sports' ebay store. I'll send you a message

@ Travis Board Materials make a big difference. There are Compression molded boards, Sandwich Composite/EPS Core, Polyester/PU boards, and EPS/Epoxy boards. Many materials to choose from and each one has a specail feel when surfing. If your looking for more floatation I would suggest a board with an EPS core. The EPS tends to sit on top of the water. It is a light weight and high performance surfing core. But there are many good shapes/boards out there, go demo and find the right board for your style.
