Has any body heard any thing on the effects of wakesurfing on engines. Not circulating oil correctly, cooling issues, fuel build up on valves, specifically the rear cyclinders. Have been surfing alot lately and the boat is a Correct Craft super air 210 2005 and it run rough when we surf for long period of time 2 plus hours at a time?? Any ideas / help would be great.. Thanks David

sounds like a fuel pump starting to go out

Not it.. Its a salt water boat just replaced that with a High-end electric and added a fuel water separator. Thats what I thought too but it still runs rough.

I have always worried that surfing is much worse on an engine. I rarely wakesurf though so I'm not too concerned about it. I rarely have 8 or 10 people in the boat and find it to be a huge hassle to fill up that many sacks. I'd rather just wakeboard or wakeskate and surf when I'm at the beach.

New spark plugs.. had the same issue on my boat new plugs fixed it.

Heavy load, low rpm for a long time.....spark plugs get loaded up. High RPM with low load for a short period (ie: 35mph for a mile) of time should clean them up... or new plugs.

The list is not very significant compared to cornering loads or hills and a car experiences. You should not be getting major issues from that. Just make sure the oil is topped up.
The fuel issues should not be a problem on an injected engine and should be minor on a carbed engine.
I agree with Craig and liljohn that it's probably plug loading. If you check them they may be darker than they should be. If this is a constant problem you can go one heat range hotter to keep them clean.

on a related note do any of yall add an extra quart of oil and actually overfill it to offset for the angle of boat and oilpan when surfing, im always concerned about the motor not getting oil when its all banked to one side, just wondering whether or not this is a valid concern

Adding an extra quart is a big negative.
If the oil level gets so high that the crank is sitting in oil, no good. The engine will be sluggish and have hard starts. Power loss ect...

I over filled mine once and thats what I got. Had to drain out a quart or so to get it right.

Don't overfill your motor, you'll just get worse oil pressure. Which you definitely don't want. Just like Art said, think about operating angles between cars and boats. The forces that your car puts out are definitely much stronger than that of your boat, especially when surfing. Your boat is desinged to run at angles and on plane.

Your boat more than likely has a boat specific sump, which keeps your pump covered with oil, which keeps oil throughout your entire motor, just like your car does. I would look at plugs first too.

Proper maintenance is the biggest key, stay on top of it and your boat will be find.

My 87 Supra SunSport does this too. We surf a lot and wakeboard too with about 1400lbs for both. It is fine for boarding and surfing for a bit but after 45 mins or so it starts so blowback and sputter a bit.

Checked the plugs and they are like new. I think upgrading from 13x13 prop to 13.25x10 will do the trick. Also will do a carb clean and rework seals etc for rebuild kit.

Any other advice?? My carbed engine needs to run better! :-)
