We just picked up a 2000 Wakesetter VLX which weighs around 2900lb and I need to get a different hoist. I know a 4000lb hoist would be better but I can get a really good deal on a 3600lb. Should I be ok with that?

consider any fixed ballast you might add (lead)

30 gallons of fuel should be around 180lbs

gear etc.

Also, are you sure that it weights 2900? My 04 vlx weights in at 3500.

Do you plan on keeping it for a long time? I have a 4k shorestation hoist and started with a 92 sport... light, no problems, but now have an SV-211 which is a lot heavier. My dealer says it will be fine, but I wish I had the 5k hoist!

I guess i'm trying to say... go with the bigger one!
