I told myself that I wouldnt post on a forum again after the famous,(or infamous) "enriched thread", but I feel that the guys who work for for us deserve a little glory for all of the hard work and the creative ideas that were put into this boat. I will post pics by sections at a time because I think that there will be alot of questions on the product and the install. The first set of pics will start on 4-20-07. In advance, thanks for the opinions. Good or bad

Here are some pics of the bow. The boat is all Zapco with the acception of the tower speakers and the deck. The woofer is a 12" reference red and the components are 6.5" reference reds. The woofer is in a ported enclosure with ports extending underneath both right and left seat compartments. The box was lit from the inside and trimed with mesh and plastic. The two factory speaker locations were removed and the vinyl was pealed as with the rest of the black vinyled panels in the boat. Then the center section of the panels was cut out and re-molded. A grill was fabricated with a mesh insert and backlit. Another light was cut in to the top of each panel. The lighting that was used is called cold cathode lighting. Each light draws 5mA. A bow remote was also fabricated into one of the panels. The trim was finished off in silver paint.Upload

Thanks and yes. You can put the seat cushion over the top. The notch on the top trim allows for it.

Moving back. There are five Digital Reference Zapco amplifiers. There is a DC1000.4 on the rear speakers and half of a DC1000.4 running the front speakers. The other half of the DC1000.4 is briged to one of the three tower speakers while there is another DC1000.4 briged to the other two tower speakers. On the two 12's there is a DC1100.1 on each. Every speaker in the boat runs at 4ohm to help with heat and power consumption. The interior components are getting 150 watts each, the towers are briged at 500 watts each and the subs are getting 820 watts each. The amps are layed out one on top of the other with lit plexi in-between. the component crossovers are at the top of the rack. The plexi/plastic window is sealed to the boat, painted silver and trimmed in white. A simple cover was built around the cd changer to hold an i-pod or mp-3 player and texture painted white. The two center speaker panels were not modified but the vinyl was stripped and they were painted with a two tone silver and white and then pin striped with black. Upload

Rich i got a question, is that sub in the bow just ported or is it bandpass? and if it is just ported which side of the sub goes to the ports and which to the free air? what's the cubic feet?
Old     (nriched)      Join Date: Oct 2006       04-21-2007, 5:17 PM Reply
The enclosure is 2 cubic foot ported box with two ports extending out both sides. The front of the sub is open air. There is know plexi on the silver trim in front of the sub. Here are some build pics.

the lights and speakers look cool but can it throw a wake, for 120K I hope it throws one that you can appreciate.

I've seen the lights, now lets see the boat!

Insane install on the system, it looks awesome! Congrats on a quality boat and stereo.

It's an X-80. It throws a bigger wake with stock ballast and 2 people than anything else with 4000 pounds in it. It's the real deal.

We had one for a few days a year or so ago. We took sacks with us, but after seeing what it was like with just stock ballast we never pulled them out. And, that was with guys who normally weight the hell out of there boats...Gerry, Lyman, and Shaun.

there was an episode of pull I seen last season with kieth, shaun and few others riding behind an x-80,going bigger than I've seen on film and I believe that that was Shaun's boat....at least that's how they made it sound.

Drew. As the owner of a car audio shop it's not for me to question why. It's my job to give them there options and to make sure that they are happy when they see the end result, but sometimes even i'm amazed. That's why it's FUN.

It was one that I borrowed from the local dealer. It was definitely a good time. Shaun had a 226 at the time that ended up doing a lot of chase.

if anyone has the pull dvd box set i think its on disc 4 when shaun murray, keith lyman, gerry nunn and Josh Palma go to the St. Johns river in florida. they use a x80 with just stock ballast and people and to the side of the rider is the nautique 226 doing some chase filming.

Here are the pics of the second 12" woofer and the tower set-up.The sub is reverse loaded in a ported enclosure with two ports running parallel takeing the place of one of the heater mounts. The box is inlaid with carbon fiber, lit red and trimmed with a silver ring. That spot is where the factory 10" JL sub went. The tower... There are 2 PRO 80's and 1 PRO 485 painted red. The bar that holds the speakers was machined out of aluminum and anodized clear(for corrsion). Two X's were milled in the bottom to match the boat. The mounts on the bar were made for the newer X-80 towers with the speaker mounts, but ower machinest is working on universal clamps.Upload

Wow. Amazing. That looks like it took a lot of work. Can you give us some idea what a system like that costs with install?
Old     (nriched)      Join Date: Oct 2006       04-28-2007, 9:42 AM Reply
The boat came with a 95amp alternator for each motor. Well, one of the customers request was for the longest possible playing time with the motors not running. So we installed 4 Stinger SPV70 batteries(I ran out of 3 hour blue tops). So three of the batteries are for the system and one for the boat. The hang up with using such a big battery system is that when they are run below 10 volts they require alot of current to charge back up. After going back and forth with Wrangler Northwest we came up with a solution. The two factory alternators were replaced with 160amp Balmars. In order to insure that there would be no charging issues, we would have to get the most current to the batteries as possible. The two charging systems were combined with "Powergate" Isolators for 320 amps of charging. Basically they are like big smart diodes. The system works perfect...so far. All of the charging/ground cable was upgraded to 0awg. Custom battery trays were machined for each side of the boat. Upload

A similar system, depending on the gear,(speakers amps etc.) would cost between $45,000 to $60,000.

Rich: Thats Bad A$$. All that C&C work is real nice. Hat's off to customers willing to drop the cash to get a big system like this done. Nice work like this does not come cheep and I know your crew must have had fun doing a nice project like this. Question whats up with all the wires in the back ground of the first pic and the smash crip's on the battery's can you not put or install 0-AWG battery terminals on the stinger batterys's?
Old     (nriched)      Join Date: Oct 2006       04-28-2007, 1:22 PM Reply
Terminal space was at a premium. As you can see. There was a lot of wire to deal with at the end of the install. I probably should have installed more distro blocks but the batteries are under the hatch and not as visible. Still. Does'nt look too bad.

i have to say im really happy to see someone else jumpin on the cold cathode tube bandwaggon! when i mentioned on here once i had them in my boat, people bashed on em. They put out an emmense amount of light for their size and they last FOREVER! however i learned the hard way about working with them, they are extremely delicate and when i was mounting them i accidently busted one. But boy when i finally got the project done it sure was awesome. It totally eliminates the uneveness that you get when using leds.

"what about some video of this boat on the water with the stereo on???"

Word is they lost foreward gear and could barely get it back on the trailer last week at Sonoma...but at least the stereo performs up to par.

Apparently what happened is that when I reassembled the dual throttle and trans control it was done incorrectly. The props are reversed and the throttle control was reassembled evenly and that was in-correct. One of the throttle controls needs to be assembled in the opposite direction. Lucky for me the boat did not make it past the dock and the problem was remmedied in an hour and back on the water. I'll be the first to admit that I had hoped that the PDI on the boat from the dealer would turn up any mistakes that I might have made on the throttle controls. My fault. As far as I know the boat was on the water today(Saturday). With out issue.

ok, so it's a battery isolator, from what I can tell it's nothing more than a high current relay with a diode, I like it though.

Rich,

From an electrical engineer's perspective that PowerGate looks like the perfect solution for your need. The 99.9% efficiency is great considering most isolators are only about 90% efficient.
