Truth be told I've never been a MasterCraft guy. Had 5 before and they never impressed me. I loved my Nautiques - and loved my Bu even more. That said, our new X-Star is one of the best boats I've ever owned. "Wow" is all I can say. If you are in the market for a core wake boat, this is one to check out. I now understand why they have been the riders choice for so many years in a row.

We have the LY-6 motor (400hp) with the Acme #1285 prop (14.50 x 14.25) and that baby jumps out of the water - even with all of the ballast full, and the additional Fly High system (3k or so) filled, plus 600lbs of lead, and 4 guys - all at high altitude. I cannot believe how much power that combination of prop and engine has!

So yeah, we are sponsored by MC so this is probably a plug in some small way...but those of you that know me, know that I call it as I see it. For those in the area, we'll be towing at least 2 of the contests with this baby and doing pulls the day before. Dang...this thing is cool!

Steve, we're currently rocking a 2007 with the LY6, and a 2008 with the 8.1. Both boats are amazing. Most impressive is the way the boat handles in the Delta. Sunday I was pulling riders in a tight little slough, you had to turn around. I was practically whipping 180s to turn around at 24+ mph with 3000 pounds and 7 people in the boat. It handles like a little 20 footers.

Is this the same boat that you are giving away in the contest Steve or will that be a brand new one?

I will alway get the LY6. O7 and 08 have it, and it handles like a hot rod.

Timmy, no, this one is ours. The one we will give away will be built to specs with a design contest we are going to have shortly.

how many people (adults) can you/do you take out comfortably on an 07/08 x star?

I had 12 people in mind on the weekend with comfort... 5 guys and 7 gals.... no issues on comming up on plane even with factory ballast filled and full tank of fuel..

Only a MCX and the new OJ 14.75x 15.5 prop...

Were the 08's any better then 07's? we have an 07 and maybe it was just a lemon but we have had soo many probs, honestly im scared if the boat is gonna be 100% every time we go to the marina. Its only been out once this season and already the inside speakers dont work. I think its mainly Copes in renton, it was their fault when our rudder came loose because they didnt put a nut on the back side of the hydraulic arm and rudder arm joint bolt. Which lead to a dinged prop and many more. Dont get me wrong I absolutely love my boat, just wondering if maybe we got a lemon or if 08's have less problems.

Couldn't say. We didn't have an 07 for the camp.

Nothing yet...

As for durability and such... Travis Moye is your guy... not sure if anyone else on the board puts 700+ hours on a boat in less that one year!

Most of those are loaded up too..

Trying to call me out eh Mike!?

Bryan was in the boat; he can vouch! It was a deadend.

After all of the powerturning discussions on this board, it's good to know it's allowable at the end of a slough.
On a serious note.... I drove my buddies 04 VLX yesterday, and was amazed by the great turning radius. I had a 92' Excel and upgraded to my 01 SAN, and just took it for granted that V-Drives drove like Caddies. It must be the deeper V, but his bigger Malibu outperformed my SAN in a huge way!(Turning around in tight sloughs)

Will they make any major changes for 09? We are deciding depending on this season, to get a vlx, or give a shot in the dark at an 09 x-star.

Is the L18 the northstar engine? If so, they discontinued it.
Old     (guido)      Join Date: Jul 2002       06-03-2008, 1:05 PM Reply
Nope... L18 is the big block. It'll be replaced by a supercharged LY6. Word on the street is that the '09 will be an entirely new boat.

I love the L18's power and the reliability of the LY6. Hopefully the new motor will be the best of both worlds.

No other changes to the best Wake boat on water.
2009 same as 2008 other than a higher price tag
