AZ needs a cable park

I've been poking my head around trying to find traction on this but I seem to be running into dead ends. Is it lack of interest(find this hard to believe), economic times, political, water issues, land issues, or all of the above? It seems to me that the AZ Phoenix area would be able to support one without a problem.

Thoughts and ideas are appreciated, as I would like to build one here.

I've been looking into building one in southern arizona, maybe between phx and tucson. There's a LOT of red tape involved mainly with water issues and such. It could be done but would take a looong time to implement.

Arizona used to have a cable park a long time ago. So did Dallas and North Carolina.

I heard about this. Is it being proposed on Country Club Dr. and McDonald in Mesa? I heard the cost is unreal. I had no idea it was going to have a cable park. I just thought it was a wave park with some other fun stuff. Have they raised the necessary funds? I can imagine the red tape is ridiculous; water rights, land rights regarding native americans. It's a home run if they can get it done.

My idea was a bit more simple and a more cost effective one. These guys are going balls to the wall. I hope it turns out.

I heard 60 million to build the whole thing. Mesa is giving them 35 million in tax incentives because of the projected tourism and job creation. Good luck to them.

Benjamin, read the link ^^^Steve put in his post. It's RIDICULOUS what they are doing......snorkeling with a makeshift reef, up to 12ft waves that crash on a real beach, a white water river for kayaking and rafting with class 2-4 rapids, rock climbing walls, and a 400 room resort with shopping area. Full service. Considering what I read, I would think 60 million is on the lowish side!

the waveyard is pushed back till 2012. but what do i know. its something to do with archiologist finding river beds underground from the native indians. i guess the indians want time to go threw it all and find more information on there ancestors. sorry for the bad spelling

Ben, funny, I thought a cable system would actually be more than $250,000. That's not to bad if you can get the land or the lake.

yeah...most of the cost of a cable park comes from other things like the land, lake, pro shop. cablewakeboard.com gives you all the info you need to build a cable park, but the site is down until it's relaunch. I think 5 mil will get you a legitimate cable park.

It's too bad they tore down the park they used to have in AZ

I used to ride the cable park in east Mesa back in the day. It was way ahead of it's time. Never seemed to have many people at it though. Maybe way to ahead of it's time.

I have a feeling this new venture will be put on hold for a very long time.

Where was that old cable parked located? It's been a long time since I've been out there and I forgot. I've heard the water is still there, is it? I'm trying to find out who owns that property now......anybody know?

Alex that owned the cable park is still a partner in the property as far as I know. The lake is still there. They built a housing sub-development around it and were allowing the owners to run boats on the lake but not anymore from what I have heard. I've ridden out there a few times behind the boat. Not anywhere big enough and felt like I was going to hit the shore every time I edged out or landed a trick.

its playa del rio. i think that is what it is called. i rode there yesterday. its pretty small but i love it there. always smooth water. the lake is only 5 feet deep. we ride a vlx and the wake is fine.

I was afraid they were going to build houses around it. When I read about Playa del Rey I thought it was odd that someone would build another lake development so close to Crystal Point, now it makes sense!
