I am looking for a good lens for my d50. I was looking at the tamron lens but not sure what to get. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Currently I am looking at this. http://cgi.ebay.com/Tamron-70-300mm-Lens-for-Nikon-N65-N70-N75-N80-F6-NEW_W0QQitemZ7603515557QQcategoryZ3343QQrdZ1QQcmdZ ViewItem

thanks

I have a 70-210 D and love it. I bought it on ebay for around $200. You can get the non-D for around $100, it is the bargain. Non-D is really the bargain lense to get. A little slower focus speed on the non-D but not that much. For wake board pics it won't matter. The subject is always the same distance - at the end of the rope! I think these are better than the Nikon 70-300 and the 55-200. Not sure about the Tamron. They are generally not as highly touted as the nikons. Check out Ken Rockwells reviews here. He is very controversial, but I am sure he knows more than me. If you have a lot of money get an 80-200 f2.8. I need gas money.

Here is a pic I took yesterday with my D50 and 70-210D. Only cropped not shopped. I can not upload a full quality or size image but you get the idea.

The question isn't whether Ken Rockwell is controversial, it's how much is Nikon paying him under the table! :-)

Have you been happy with any non nikon lenses. I don't own any and am not stuck on nikon. But nikon does make a good product. Are the other guys as good? I know they have to undercut nikon product pricing to sell them.

I have been quite happy with my Sigma 30mm F1.4. It is one of their EX series lenses which seam to be fairly good. I would prefer to have a Nikor 28mm F1.4, but I would have to eat ramen noodles for the rest of my life to be able to afford that lens. I have also used Sigma lenses that were compete junk.

I took this picture with my Sigma 30mm F1.4
