New Hyperlite Webcam at Radar Lake

This is kind of interesting. Hyperlite has installed a webcam at Radar Lake that provides a pretty good quality picture. Unfortunately, it's at the opposite end of the lake from most of the sliders, so you really can't see much if somebody is hitting one.

That being said, I just logged on and saw somebody being pulled by a PWC hit one of the sliders. Pretty cool feature, especially since it's free! :-)

anyway, it sounds like a cool idea, do you know how the cam is connected to the internet?

it says the conection is refused, so i am guessing they didnt want the public to get to it.

Just keep trying. The connection is probably refused when the number of people connected has reached it's limit. I was able to get on after trying several times.

Alain, the camera takes a snapshot and compresses it into JPEG format. It then FTPs the image to a server and a Java app downloaded to your computer gets the JPEG and displays it.

I'm betting that it doesn't take that many connections and we've just overloaded it. It worked the first time I clicked on it, but now it says the page cannot be displayed.

there are two buttons on top. One is mute the other is to move the camera and zoom in. You can see the whole lake. There is a girl on the sun deck with 2 dogs. A jetski is pulling a rider hitting sliders. Very cool Dave. Thanks for the link

hey John, so the feed is a series of jpeg images, that's cool, but do you know how the camera is connected to the Internet? i wonder if it's just an ethernet cable running into a router then to a cable/dsl modem or something like wi-fi to the router or a cellular modem over a cellular network or something.. anyway, it doesn't really matter, it's just cool..

Alain, It's probably connected just like you said. You can buy cameras that capture an image, compress it into a JPEG, and then FTP to a server. You just give it a server address and a capture period.
