I'm looking to buy a new video camera. I dont really even know where to begin, i just want the highest quality shot with a harddrive. Lets say 500-600 is what im looking to spend...is that reasonable? Point me in the right direction so i can start lookin please!

Why a hard drive? Mini DV's can provide you with a loss-less format and uplimited "space". The Canon HV20 is a GREAT choice and can be found cheaper now that the HV30 has been released. I bought mine for $600. If this purchase is for the long run, then get an HD camcorder...you won't be disappointed.
