I have been using Sony 74 minute CD-R's and they skip like crazy. I noticed that Verbatim CD-R's seem to work better. Any one else have simliar problems? Or have any suggestions for better CD-R's?

I use the Sony 74's as well and they seem to work fine for a while but then start skipping. Not sure if its all CDR's or the sonys or the deck.

Probably the deck. Also.....it would help keep the heat build up if you remove the black plastic splash guard that is installed on top of the unit underneath the dash.

By the way....you have to remember that the Clarion is not really a top of the line head unit. Not that I'm trash talking it.....It just doesn't have the high end qualities of other stereos with more sophisticated laser sampling.

The Clarion XMD-1 has a two year warranty, so call the dealer and have them order a new one.

I was told (by Clarion) that Clarions without the Pro-Audio logo were 1 year warranties and only the Pro-Audio versions were covered by the 2 year warranty.

Jeff, Before you send that Clarion head back, test it out with a few regular CD's. The quality of CD-R disc varies greatly between manufacturers and the quality can deteriorate dramatically the more you play them. --Ronnie www.audioformz.com

Jeff, I had the same problem.. here's the fix: Do not burn your cd's at max burn rate. My burner is a 52x and I burn at 32x and my cd's no longer skip. My techie buddy informed me of this, whatever your burner is, back off the burn rate by at least 2 steps. Try it, I think you'll be surprised. B-

Grant - Good idea - Sounds like a good excuse to get a disc changer! Barry - Thanks for the advice - I'll try that. I'll slow the rate down. I think mine is a 40x. I'll try something a little slower. Thanks, Jeff

Barry, I tried slowing down the burn rate and it worked great. No skipping on the CD's I burned. Thanks for your help.

Jeff, You're welcome! I need to ask him(my buddy)what the differnce in burn rates is. I have no idea why burning at max rate makes them skip, weird! B-
