1.) Are people taking their boats?
2.) Isn't the lake pretty small?
3.) How well will you be able to see from shore?

I think I might go. :-) I know of a few people that will be bringing boats. Depending upon how many folks sign up there may be time to free ride before and after the contest. We'd hope that we can keep the course, itself, calm for the riders.

The lake is tiny, no doubt about it. As Vince points out it's also FREEZING. :-) Typically not a lot of activity this early in the season.

The elevated and semi-circular pier offers a great vantage point for viewing and we'll hope to run fairly close to that. The trees to the west are probably where most folks will hang out as I believe the temp's are going to be around 100.

Dennis and Robert had been discussing streaming live video from the contest, but we don't have the funds to get one of the pieces of equipment. So the next best thing will be live blogging from the event, including pictures. For those that can't make the contest, be sure to follow along at wake9.

The venue is just a stones throw from UC, Merced wifi. I'm a technophile, so can't do the subject justice, but the concept of a webcast without the cost of a mobile studio was very interesting.

Hopefully Robert and Dennis will get a moment today to describe the technology.

Watch the blog tomorrow! :-) I heard that Robert has a YouTube channel setup also, so we'll hopefully have some "almost live" video posted up.

I setup a blog where we will be posting info, pics, and hopefully a photostream, and youtube videos.

http://wake9.com/blogs/norcal-merced-2009/

It will be near live, but a lot will depend on the quality of the 3G signal. I have both ATT and Verizon 3G setup, and I am bring 3 digital cameras, 1 digital SLR, and 2 handheld 720P HD cameras. Hoping to have the HD video cameras on each of the boats, and at least one digital camera on each boat. I have also purchased several extra SD cards, so hopefully we can do some fancy rotation, and do this near live. Wake9 is bring a crew of 4 adults and 12 kids, so we should have PLENTY of help!

I am sure we will get some good pictures of the EPIC wake. Go to the blog now, and subscribe to the RSS feed to get updates.

These are being uploaded in Full 720p, so go ahead and click the FULL Screen button, much better than a normal youtube video.

What boats and setup were used in the competition?

They were epic 23v's. Dennis would have to talk about weight, I saw them putting in lead/steel, not sure how much.

If Superman is the 'Man Of Steel' - Dennis should be called the "Man Of Lead"

To answer the weight questions. Yes we did ballast the Epic. LOL The boat handles a lot of weight very well. We had the front stock and riding side stock full. I am not sure how much water ballast is stock in those 2 tanks but all three is 4000#. We added 300# lead in back corner and 200# lead in front on riding side. I am working with Epic to change the transition right now it is to sharp. Epic is very interested in making the boat work well for surfing it already is a great wakeboarding boat.

I love the slideshow and the organization by division - made viewing the stills a pleasure. No squinting at thumnails with my poor eyes. :-) Thanks again Robert and the entire Garcia family for all the hard work.
