If you had 3 boards with the following stance ranges, am I right in thinking if you wanted to ride 27inch stance centred you'd have to go with board (B)?

Stance Range (in)

A 22-26
B 23-27
C 24-28

Why so wide?

B or C would be needed

Is it wide?

(B) & (C) above were for a 137 and 141 board respectively. I was only using them as an example.

My issues is I currently ride using the outer inserts on a 142. I would like my stance a little narrower but to move to the next insert and still be centred would reduce stance width by 2 inches (assuming 1inch spacing). I tried and it was a little too narrow for me.

So my thought was I could reduce to slightly shorter board and use the outer inserts and it will only be 1 inch narrower than I ride at the moment.

Obviously, a track system would eliminate the problem but just wanted I have misunderstood how insert spacing works.

I would never size down a board for stance that's like cutting off your nose to spite your face. If anything I would just buy a brand that uses better insert packs (like slingshot or humanoid for example) so that you can get the correct stance for a properly sized board.

Tracks suck and don't let anyone try to convince you otherwise. You'll be adjusting every other set.

And yes that's a wide stance. I am just over 6' tall and ride at 22.5" or so. I am "knock kneed" a bit so I run a bit narrower than most. Depends on your hip alignment. Last time I rode a wakeboard that wide I bombed my because the propensity was for it to be straight or "locked" which is a vulnerable position.

Never again.

Humanoid has inserts with half inch spacing.
That could be a solution...

Thanks Steve, definitely sounds a better concept.

@simplyj - It would cool to be able to ride that narrow but hip mobility just wouldn't allow it; I wouldn't be able to gab the board :-)
