Here are my options (not in any order);
1) 2007 Epic 23V - $36,900 - 100hrs
2) 2007 Centurion Avalanche C4 - $38,990 - 161hrs
3) 2008 Centurion Avalanche C4 - $37,000 - 146hrs
4) 2007 Centurion Elite C4 - $35,550 - 34hrs
5) 2006 Centurion 230 ENZO - $39,900 - ?hrs
6) 2007 Centurion C4 Elite Air Warrior - $38,850 - 189hrs
7) 2008 Malibu V Ride - $23,600 - 99hrs
8) 2007 Centurion Elite V C4 Air Warrior - $30,000 - 142hrs
9) 2006 Centurion ENZO SV 230 - $38,990 - 55hrs
10) 2006 Supra Launch 21V - $38,900 - 253hrs
11) 2007 Centurion Air Warrior - $34,800 - 174hrs
12) 2007 Centurion ENZO 216/220 - $37,999 - 282hrs
13) 2007 Centurion Avalanche - $37,900 - 200hrs
14) 2007 Centurion Elite C4 Air Warrior - $34,900 - 156hrs
15) 2005 Centurion ENZO SV230 - $35,500 - 110hrs
16) 2007 Centurion ENZO 230 - $43,000 - 165hrs

Boat will be used for family riding mostly wake surfing and a little wake boarding.
A couple of comparison questions for each:
1) who will throw the better surf wake with 2 to 5 stowaways + captain?
2) who has the lower engine noise?
3) is the dual rudder really a good option for the Epic, and if so why not dual rudders on all of these boats?
4) how is maintenance/parts for each of these boats (by Denver, Co)?
5) engine size, some are 315hp and others are 330hp. any thoughts on one or the other? all boats are 21 to 23 feet.
6) gas usage between the 315hp and the 330hp for surfing with a 4 man crew?
7) any know issues with any of these boats (good or bad)?
Any other questions I need to be asking?

Currently I am leaning toward #1, #3, #8, #12, #16 or #17
While it may not look like it by my list above, I am not set on a Centurion. They just seem to be the most with the options I want.
Any other comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated as the wife gave me the go ahead yesterday to buy the new family addition.

Epic is not a very good surf boat steep and not much push. Avalanche is good for surfing. Demo all and try to see them setup as a surf boat.

Skip the V-ride. It's not pleasant in rough water. The Supra might be the lowest engine noise, but if you put an FAE on any of them the noise will not bother you.
Gas mileage is similar with either engine. The 330 hp is tuned as a pure wakeboard engine, so that would be my first choice.
Some Centurion owner will show up but I think the Avalanche is better than the Elite for what you are looking for.
What you really want to decide is how big you want the boat to be. The difference in feel and room is significant between some of the boats listed.

If surfing is your thing go for #16 it is also listed on centurioncrew but for $41,000

I found that thread for #16 after I posted, and so far that is my choice.
Epic is out, I did like the boat though.
Look at this for #6 2007 Centurion Elite C4, no radio and a little beat up. #6 out
I know that #7 will not go for $23, just posting current numbers. But with no reserve it will go. Any idea on where it might end up at?

anywhere from 40-45 depending on condition. tough to say with the ebay factor though. 36 is about wholesale so that would be an amazing deal for the vride. If you could get it for that price i would definitely consider that my top choice. You should also consider dealer network. I personally like sticking in the big 3, bu, mc, and cc. Of those i think the bu's are the best value esp the vride. Beyond that, resale tends to be a bit better with the big 3 as well although you won't go wrong with any of them. As long as it's a vdrive, engine noise should be a non-factor.

Bottom line is you should demo before you buy, if you can't find that year range vride, you could get in a 2004 or earlier vlx and it would be the same thing.

Ok, I am going to show my newbeeisum (is that a word?) and ask the following;
Dealer Network...? A web search just came up with a bunch of sites I have already been on. Is it another site that I give my specs to and they find the boat for me?
Big 3;
Master Craft
Correct Craft
Bayliner?
I have seen a few MC I liked but they all broke the $45K mark, my target max.
I wish I could demo all of them. Due to current work schedule and location, I am unable to at this time. I am hoping to narrow it down to 2 or 3 then visit each of those boats and do test drives with them only.

2007 Mastercraft X-15 - $38,400 - 625hrs
Here is a mastercraft for $38K but with 625hrs I would be afraid of spending more time fixing it than using it. And the interior needs a lot of love.

I like this one

I'll take the under -- I'm betting it goes for around $38k.

The one thing about the V Ride is that it only has 2 ballast. I have goofy and regular footed surfers, how would I move the wake from one side to the other?
Old     (bruizza)      Join Date: May 2009       03-27-2011, 9:32 AM Reply
Since you are in Denver look long and hard at that V ride. Tommy's is the Malibu dealer in Denver and they are AWESOME! One thing to keep in mind it the altitude we are at. You lose 3% of your hp for every 1k in feet of elevation. So you are losing 15% of your hp out here. If you end up weighting the boat down a lot the smaller engines might not do so well.

It has a center tank under the floor and then hard tanks on each side in the rear lockers. Three tanks total.

Bruizza, in saying that I assume that the 350hp will work for a 21' but the 315hp may be undersized for a 21' (depending on weight of dry boat).

One thing to think about... The "small" engine does 320 hp. The monsoon that went in the pre-05 vlx (same hull as vride) was 325 hp. There were a few pre 05 vlx's with the hammerhead, but that's pretty rare...

In 2 days we will know. I am going to call the dealer tomorrow. Is there anyone in the area that would be willing to stop by and take a look at it for me? I have friends in the area but they would not know a boat from a raft.
In the mean time the search continues......

Yeah that is my thinking. We have never had a boat out here that was under 335hp so I can't say for sure. Someone else from the area may be able to chime in on a 315hp engine.

Bruizza, Is the 320hp of the VRide going to be powerful enough for up here (Denver +)? We will usually have 4 total on the boat.

I am guessing that the chrome dashboard covers can be replaced easily if the bubbling really starts to bug me.
And in pic #34, what is that under the cushion between the two hinges?
It also looks like the boat may have some electrical issues, how much of a pain is that in these boats? And do they have a history of electrical issues?

It's the bilge / engine compartment vents.

Putting in a new stereo headunit is a piece of cake.

Since you are in denver you don't want to go under 340hp, you have to remember you lose 3% hp for every 1000ft elevation. In fact my next boat won't have under 400hp.
Old     (bojik)      Join Date: Sep 2009       03-28-2011, 9:03 AM Reply
I'm guessing that a 400hp engine starts to limit my possible boats. Would the 320hp work for a family boat, knowing that we will be pulling only average or below surfers/boarders?
I am also guessing that a boat with a 400hp starts to get to big and/or out of my current budget.
So, will the 320hp or 330hp 21' boat work for a few years then upgrade to a 400hp boat?
Old     (cjh1669)      Join Date: Apr 2005       03-28-2011, 9:06 AM Reply
You can get a 400hp engine in a 20ft boat. The smaller your hp,at least at this elevation, the more it will limit your weight in the boat for getting on plane. My boat has a 340hp engine in it and we've struggled gettingout of the hole when loaded down. If you're going to run heavy you need more HP. The other thing you need to do is make sure you get a prop for this alt, like an acme 1235
Old     (bruizza)      Join Date: May 2009       03-28-2011, 9:12 AM Reply
You will most likely be fine in the 320hp engine with only 4 people. Once you step up to 6-8 or so people and full ballast is where it might start to struggle. Like Chris said with 7-8 people in his VTX and full ballast it starts to struggle out of the hole. Since you plan on mostly wakesurfing I don't think you will have much of an issue.

Boat #16 is still available for at most $41K and #7 is at $30K with a day to go. Shawndoggy will be about right, $38K to $41K.
I like #16, it appears better cared for and I will not need to do anything to put it in the water. It has a 330hp engine but a foot (or so) longer than the VRide.
#7 needs speakers, radio and who knows what else at this point. It is a 320hp engine but shorter than the centurion.
Being I am looking for a family boat and it looks like the VRide will be about the same $ as the centurion, should I just see what I can get the centurion for?

Dude, put a prop on a 320 or 340 hp motor in Denver and you'll be FINE.. Don't worry about that - with a sick prop and average riders - you will have zero problems.

Not true, I'm running the 1235 on a 20ft boat. When I'm loaded up I struggle out of the hole. Taat's with a 340hp engine, whihc at 5280 is running just around 290hp. A 320hp engine would be running around 270hp.

I have been by four that I can remember. Never really asked a lot of the questions everyone here has brought up, just general boat info.

I plan on calling Tommy's today or tomorrow.

Ask for Brian at Tommy's, he'll hook you up. He always has boats coming in that aren't on his site. He's by far the best boat sales guy in town. A little over a year ago I was doing the same thing you are.
It's not just about the boat , it's also abotu the people you're going to have working on your boat and with you from the pro shop. If you buy a boat who has a crappy presence int he state you're going to hate working wiht them. I can tell you the master craft dealer here sucks. Really the two best dealers in denver are the tige and malibu dealrers, and I think the malibu dealre is the best of those two.

If you're up by vail you have to be close to 8000ft of altitude. That means you lose 25% of your horse pwer right off the top. that 320hp engine will be running aorund 240. Man engine size should be one of your top concerns, even if you went with something like a 410hp you'd still only get 308hp.
Old     (bojik)      Join Date: Sep 2009       03-28-2011, 4:50 PM Reply
Yes, but there is also no H2O up here, other than the river. We go to Denver, Rifle, Grand Lake or long trips down south for our boating. So Denver altitude is about the worst I will have to deal with, give or take a couple hundred feet.

And I guess that CO2 thing is a plus, coming from a guy that has been in the hospital twice for CO2 poisoning.

I boat up at Horsetooth witch is north of Denver. I agree with Chris and Bruizza ( hows it going by the way Bruizza hope to see you up at Horsetooth this year again) If you have a chance to get a bigger motor go for it. I think you could get by with less motor if you have a trim tab to help out. It took me about 5 different props to get my boat to run right with the 330hp, I have a trim tab on my boat witch helps out a bunch when I load the boat with weight. Good luck with the boat buying.

I would really like to know how an 08 Enzo has a PCM engine in it. Still looks like a clean boat. You will also need to add a Bennett/Lenco trim tab to surf the dark side (not a big deal, cost about $500)

The PCM Engine is great and an upgrade to the Mercruiser (IMO). The reason I would ask is because Centurion did not offer the PCM engine in 2008 (you could get it on late model 2009 and all 2010-2011). So I would be curious to why that boat has one.

Down to the final few (in my order of choice);
1) 2008 Centurion SV 240 - $39,999 - 84hrs - 390hp Low hours, Larger engine, Has all options, May be a little bigger than I need
2) 2007 Centurion ENZO 230 - $41,000 - 165hrs - 330HP Ok hours, Ok engine, Right sized boat
3) 2007 Centurion ENZO 216/220 - $37,999 - 282hrs - 330hp High hours, Ok engine, Right sized boat

Any thoughts?
Will the size of boat #1 ever come back to bite me?
Boat #2 should be my first choice but I like all of the options of boat #1.
Will the hours of boat #3 mean that I will start having issues sooner? And at what hrs will a boat start to have major issues (being well taken care of)?
Any idea on the difference in mpg between these boats?

Seeing as how they are all within 3k of each other I would go with #1. Low hours and upgraded engine are a huge plus to me. Plus it is fully optioned out. Honestly if the only concern is "may be bigger than I need' I wouldn't think twice about buying it. Always better to have more room than you need than less room.

When we had a Supra Tommy's serviced it and they do not sell Supra. My buddy with an X Star is ready to bring it to Tommy's due to the incompetence of S&W.

I spoke to Brian at Tommy's and gave him the link to this thread. He said he would look through my final choices and give me his input. He also has no problem servicing my new boat choice.

You should look at what he has to sell also before you make your choice. Get out and demo a few

From Brian at Tommy's;
The 240 looks good, since it was dealer demo it should still come with a full warranty, so check on that, I would also have them do a 100 hour service on the boat if they have not done so.
*
I’m not sure if re-sell value is important to you or not, but the 230 might take awhile to sell with the green flames. Try and get the service records and see what kind of maintenance has been done on the boat. 330 h.p. will struggle on a 23’ boat at this altitude, even with a high altitude prop.
*
The 220 looks real clean, I would not worry about those hours if they serviced it regularly, again get the service records. You will be a little underpowered, but if you are not going to add ballast you can probably get away with.
*
If storage is not an issue for you I would lean toward the 240, followed by the 220.
*
I have to throw a shout out to Axis, it might be worth your time to look at them if you would consider spending a little more for a new boat.
*
I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

Quick response and great help to someone who may or may not be a future customer. Guaranteed I will be a future customer.

I would love to but it is hard to justify $50K living where I do. If I lived on a lake down south where it was summer longer than 5 or 6 months, yes.

Brian at Tommy's is the man. In the end all he cares about is that you are happy. He is never pushy and goes to ridiculous lengths to make his customers happy.

Bryan the Enzo is a great deal and is centurions top of the line model in 08.Don't worry about the size I have never heard anyone complain about having to much room you will grow into it.The sideswipe works but most people on the centurioncrew prefer the FAE.The boat comes with a manual trim tab but a power plate is an easy upgrade. All centurions in 08 came designed for the switchblade which could be your other choice I installed mine myself and love it but it is not a must have with the 240.The Pcm engine was available as an upgrade from the east coat factory. If you and your family get into surfing you will be happy you did it right the first time.

$32,600 for the V Ride. To bad the engine was too small for me.

What are some good sites for the parts to add a heater and shower to a Centurion boat?

Kevin congrats on the sale what is next the carbon pro?? Bryan congrats on the new Enzo 220 Keven takes very good care of his stuff as you already know. It has the same hull as the falcon and is a great multi sport boat as it does everything well.I would have bought that boat if I would not have found my falcon first.Make sure to join the centurion crew their are many good guys over there that would be more than happy to answer any of your questions
